About the Winery:
The Virgen del Galir winery was founded in 2002 in a valley of the Galir river, in Éntoma, a small village in Orense, Galicia, Northern Spain. The “Camino de Santiago” crosses through this village. Virgen del Galir is a member of the Valdeorras DO.
Since the estate's recent purchase by legendary Rioja firm CVNE, the high-quality raw materials have been able to shine brighter than ever thanks to capital improvements in the winery. In the best tradition of Galicia, the wines are well-made, affordable, refreshing, and delicious.
About this Wine:
This wine is made from a single, distinctive vineyard: our A Malosa estate, a 21hectare property planted in four phases between 2015 and 2018. Located in Éntoma, in the Don Fiz paraje at the heart of the Val do Galir, the vineyard spans a range of soil types. The eastern part features extremely poor, slate-rich soils composed entirely of schist, while the western section has more loamy, clay-based soils. The vineyard is laid out in terraces between 400 and 600 metres above sea level, with both north- and south-facing exposures. Winemaking The grapes are harvested by hand into 15 kg crates and undergo cold maceration in refrigerated chambers prior to fermentation. They are then gently pressed at low pressure, and only the free-run juice is used— press fractions are discarded. The wine is aged on its fine lees for three months in stainless steel tanks, foudres, and 500-litre French oak barrels.
Tasting Notes:
Brilliant and luminous, this wine (100% Godello) displays a captivating greenish-yellow hue. On the nose, it unfolds with elegance, revealing a crisp Atlantic character and a deep mineral core. Delicate floral nuances weave through fresh citrus and wild herb aromas, offering a refined complexity. The palate is both vibrant and textured, balancing persistence with an inviting silkiness. A beautifully structured wine, its generous volume and tension are enhanced by lees aging, delivering a long, satisfying finish. A perfect match for seafood, grilled fish, fresh vegetables, white meats, and flavorful stews. Recommended serving temperature 10ºC (50ºF).
Ratings & Reviews (2024 Vintage)
93 Points - Vinous Media:
"The 2024 Godello Val do Galir A Malosa is from Entoma, Valdeorras. This presents soft pear, linden and a touch of orange peel on the nose, with a pure expression. Aging in foudres and 500-liter barrels lent a delicate cedar note. This is dry and fresh, with a linear palate supported by well-defined oak. It shows precise winemaking, a talc-like texture and a subtle pink hint." - Joaquin Hidalgo (Sep 2025)
93 Points - James Suckling:
"Steely, with notes of dried apples and salted lemons. The medium- to full-bodied palate is savory and saline, with an attractive, tight and delineated profile of white fruit and stones. From a single vineyard in the eastern part of the appellation, planted on schist soils. Very pleasant and direct, with a subdued creaminess. Drink now." (Jul 2025)
91+ Points - Wine Advocate:
"The white 2024 Maruxa Godello is a village wine from Éntoma on slate soils. The juice from the direct pressing fermented with indigenous yeasts in 7,000-liter stainless steel vats and was kept with the lees for five months. It has 13.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.1 and 6.8 grams of acidity. They are aiming for less varietal character (less of the apple aromas) and gaining in precision and expression of the place. It's a white with tension, acidity and volume, with a pleasant bitter twist in the finish. They consider 2024 their finest vintage to date. 52,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2025." - Luis Gutierrez (Jul 2025)
