About the Winery:
The Eguren family strove to produce a world class wine from the miniscule Finca La Nieta, a vineyard with shallower, poorer soils, and a superior microclimate than the neighboring El Puntido vineyard. The product is Viñedos de Páganos’ flagship wine, La Nieta.
The Eguren family wanted to use this vineyard to display the subtlety and elegance that Tempranillo can represent, and they have achieved this with La Nieta.
Environmentally integrated agriculture. Located at the foot of the Sierra Cantabria, this area is characterized by an Atlantic climate that is moderated by the Sierra.
Employing viticulture that respects the biorhythms of the plant and vineyard. Exhaustive hand selection and harvest in small boxes of perfectly ripe grapes. Trellised vineyards planted at a high density in order to reduce yield. Organic fertilization every two years.
The grapes are destemmed by hand, berry by berry, with a rigorous selection of every grape followed by a cold maceration pre-fermentation. Fermentation in 1000L open top oak vats with selected indigenous yeast and the total maceration is 21 days. Malolactic fermentation in new Bordelaise French Oak barrels.
18 months in new Bordelaise French Oak barrels. Racked every four months.

Ratings & Reviews
94 Points - Wine Spectator:
"A minerally red, with subtle notes of fresh loamy earth, smoke and iron interwoven with flavors of mulled cherry, tea rose, dried fig and balsamico herbs and spices. Reveals a rich, expressive tapestry of flavors wrapped around firm, fine-grained tannins and orange peel acidity. Long, fragrant finish. Best from 2024 through 2035. 400 cases made, 50 cases imported." - Alison Napjus (July 2023)
