About the Winery:
Located in the heart of the Langhe hills, at the top of the village of Castiglione Falletto, the Vietti wine cellar was founded in the late 1800s by Carlo Vietti. Alfredo Currado married Luciana Vietti and is largely responsible for the resurrection of the Arneis grape. Today the estate is led by Luca Currado Vietti and his wife Elena.

In 2016 the historic winery was acquired by Krause Holdings, enabling Luca and Elena Currado, the fourth generation in charge of the Vietti brand, to add a number of prized crus to the estate’s holdings, all while maintaining the family approach for which the cellar has always been known.\

Grapes: 100% Nebbiolo

Winemaking:

The grapes are grown in one of the historic vineyards of the Barolo area, Rocche in Castiglione Falletto, with roughly 4,600 units per hectare. The vines were planted in three different moments (1940, 1950 and 1968) and are trained with the Guyot method. The vineyard has a south-eastern exposure and a clay-limestone soil. The grapes are gently crushed and fermented for approximately 4 weeks in stainless steel tanks with skin contact. This includes the pre- and post- fermentative maceration with the traditional submerged cap method. Malolactic fermentation takes place in oak.

Aging: Approximately 30 months in large oak casks.

About the wine:

Medium-intense ruby red colour. Complex and elegant nose. Notes of ripe red fruit (cherry, red berries) floral (rose petals with a hint of chamomile) and mineral nuances. Good intensity on the palate, fresh, well- balanced, silky, mouth-filling and rounded. The tannins are well-integrated. Long and persistent finish with good freshness.

Ratings & Reviews

97+ Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"This is one of my sweetheart wines from Castiglione Falletto. The Vietti 2018 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is beautifully etched and sharp with an especially delineated quality that is uncommon in this vintage. Fruit comes from a small 8,000-square-meter parcel, and like the other wines in this cru series from Vietti, it ages in oak casks for two years. The wine's texture is beautifully smooth and polished thanks to the carefully integrated tannins."- June, 2022, Monica Larner

96 Points - Vinous Media:
"The 2018 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is suave, silky and caressing right out of the gate. Sumptuous and racy, with silky tannins, the Rocche possesses superb depth and plenty of resonance that builds over time. The 2018 is an especially potent Rocche that is going to need a number of years to unwind." - February, 2022, Antonio Galloni

95 Points - Wine Spectator:
"A Barolo that starts out with breadth, turning more focused and linear by the finish. Delivers cherry, plum, mineral, sandalwood and tar aromas and flavors that permeate the supple texture, with all the components in the right proportions. Firm, refined tannins lend support and this lingers nicely. Best from 2025 through 2045. 307 cases made, 75 cases imported."

95 Points - James Suckling:
"Lots of sweet, wild-strawberries hit your nose first, but wait for the beautiful, spiced orange-peel note that will bowl you over. Then mineral and savory-spice notes chime in. Full-bodied with intense wild-fruit and agrumi flavor, which is already latching onto the slightly chewy tannins. This is just a baby, but it’s packed with bright, spicy-fruit promise. Patience is needed. Try from 2025."  February, 2022, James Suckling
