About the Winery:
The unwavering dedication of the Gallo family to vineyards and wine dates back over a century and is rooted in the labor and determination of family members over three generations. Gianfranco, who has managed the estate since 1978, introduced radical viticultural programs and has devoted painstaking attention to winemaking practices; these initiatives have given the stamp of unique personality to the wines of Vie di Romans over the last 30 years, making them some of the most premier wines in the entire peninsula. The 57 hectares of vineyards are located in a niche microclimate that benefits from soil rich in alluvial fans and minerals that have been carried there by glaciers over the millennia, as well as, the Bora winds from the east that result in large, daily temperature fluctuations.

About this wine:

Aged in stainless steel – 8 months sur lie

Tasting notes: Bright straw yellow color. The nose is elegant and complex with mineral notes and ripe aromas of citrus and exotic fruits, together with fresh hints of sage and lemon verbena. The sip is full, fresh and persistent with a pleasant finish of mint, lime and minerals.

Food pairing: Ideal with smoked or steamed fish starters, fish soup, grilled fish and risotto with seafood. Excellent also with asparagus based dishes.

Ratings & Reviews

94 Points - James Suckling

"This is spiced and citrusy with sliced pears, lime peel, savory herbs and raw almonds. Medium- to full-bodied, juicy and crunchy with tense, phenolic character. Steady and vivid acidity. Lengthy and mineral with a creamy finish. Drink now." (Aug 2023)

92 Points - Vinous Media
"The 2021 Sauvignon Blanc Piere is a spice bomb, holding my attention firm with a blast of ground ginger, cardamon, flint stone and curry before arriving at dried nectarines. It's luxuriously silky yet lifted in style, with cooling minerality and acidity that motivates its floral-laced green citrus and melon tones. For all of its intensity, the 2021 finishes crisp and with a classically dry feel, as savory herbal tones resonate on. There is so much pleasure in this upfront, fruit-focused, yet truly seductive Sauvignon." - Eric Guido (Apr 2023)

91 Points - Wine Spectator

"Let this compact white open in the glass to reveal a fine, creamy range of apricot tarte, graphite, passion fruit coulis and Mediterranean scrub aromas and flavors, all underscored by a rich vein of smoky minerality. Racy, spiced finish. Best from 2024 through 2029. 600 cases made, 200 cases imported." – AN (Nov 2023)
