About this Champagne:
The story of Veuve Clicquot is one of audacity, creativity, and boldness. In 1810, Madame Clicquot invented the first ever vintage champagne, in 2015 Veuve Clicquot declared the 67th vintage of the Maison. Since then, the house has cultivated an art of ageing.

The predominance of Pinot Noir (50%), produced exclusively from grapes selected from the Grand Cru and Premier Cru villages, provides the structure that is so typically Clicquot. Chardonnay (30%) brings the elegance and finesse of a perfectly balanced wine, while a small percentage of Pinot Meunier (20%) rounds out the blend.

Veuve Clicquot’s Vintage collection is unique for its use of wines vinified and aged in large oak casks (10%), which adds strength and aromatic intensity. The cask-aged wines bring an additional complexity with their spicy notes and subtle roast coffee and toasted aromas.

Dosage: Brut, 6g/L

Tasting Notes: “This wine stands out for its elegance, tension and energy. The first impression is of its tension, verticality and minerality, after which the wine unfolds its aromas of toast, roasted coffee beans and praline. The excellent structure makes this a fine, upstanding vintage.”

Food Pairing: Veal, Crawfish, Smoked scallops

Varietal Composition: 50% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay, 20% Meunier

Ratings & Reviews

94 Points - Wine & Spirits Magazine (2012 vintage):
"This focuses on red fruit (51% Pinot Noir, 15% Meunier), with chardonnay providing the balance, all of it from premier or grand cru sites. A portion of the blend (11%) was aged in foudres, adding power to the wine’s structure without diminishing its scent of spring flowers, a sunny, floral note that contrasts the wine’s chalk cloud of minerality and its rich depths of flavor. A great vintage from Clicquot, this is fresh, grand and giving."

92 Points - Wine Enthusiast  (2012 vintage):
"This is a vintage very much in the producer’s style. It is soft, with a dosage that gives baked-apple flavors as well as acidity. Both need to come together in this young wine. Its dosage will allow it to age well into a toasty old age." - Roger Voss (12/31/2019)

92 Points - Wine Spectator  (2012 vintage):
"Sleek acidity frames this harmonious Champagne, with flavors of lemon curd and crushed blackberry, accented by pistachio, anise and fleur de sel notes. Creamy and well-meshed, showing zesty drive on the finish. Disgorged August 2018. Drink now through 2027." - AN (12/15/2019)
