About the Winery:

Jess Jackson convinced Bordelais Pierre Seillan to come to California from St.-Emilion to make these wines, and Vérité has been one of the classics for well over a decade. The La Muse cuvee represents a Pomerol-styled wine, La Joie a Medoc and Le Desir a St.-Emilion. These are long-term, concentrated, tannic efforts that usually require 5-10 years of bottle age, and are meant to age for at least three decades. Seillan has crafted multiple 100 point Wine Advocate wines under the Vérité label to date!

The Vérité Estate is located in the foothills of the Mayacamas Mountain range at the southern tip of Sonoma County's Alexander Valley. This unique location is just north of the confluence of the Chalk Hill and Knights Valley appellations, an area know for superior soil, climate, and potential to express a strong sense of terroir.

About this Wine:

Profound and sophisticated, La Muse delivers the incredible depth and texture with a Merlot-based blend from the top micro-crus of eastern Sonoma County. Like a graceful swan, it embodies elegance, softness and strength.

Notes from the Winemaker:

Discreet nose on this 2009 La Muse: classic for a grand Merlot but already showing notes of black cherry, currants and plum compote. Deep, rich, intense color. On the palate, an overwhelming entry with its power and strength, followed by a very long finish of beautiful, strong tannins. The complexity is incredible. The wine displays notes of licorice, white pepper and black cherry.

Composition:

85% Merlot
9% Cabernet Franc
5% Malbec
1% Cabernet Sauvignon

Ratings & Reviews

96 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2009 La Muse is a rich, sumptuous wine bursting with dark plums, black, cherries, graphite, espresso, spices and licorice. It shows gorgeous balance from start to finish. Persistent veins of minerality frame the long, beautifully articulate, creamy finish. This is a deceptively accessible wine today, but there is so much underlying power and sheer structure that I will not be surprised if it shuts down in the bottle. The 2009 is 86% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc and 5% Malbec. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2029." - Antonio Galloni (Feb 2012)

95 Points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar:
"Bright red-ruby. Sweet aromas of black raspberry, bitter chocolate, violet and smoke. Large-scaled, velvety and deep, with outstanding intensity and sweetness to its dark berry, violet and mineral flavors. Boasts a compelling combination of suavity of texture and sheer energy. Extremely long on the aftertaste, with noble tannins barely noticeable today." - Stephen Tanzer (May/June 2013)
