About the Winery:

Jess Jackson convinced Bordelais Pierre Seillan to come to California from St.-Emilion to make these wines, and Vérité has been one of the classics for well over a decade. The La Muse cuvee represents a Pomerol-styled wine, La Joie a Medoc and Le Desir a St.-Emilion. These are long-term, concentrated, tannic efforts that usually require 5-10 years of bottle age, and are meant to age for at least three decades. Seillan has crafted multiple 100 point Wine Advocate wines under the Vérité label to date!

The Vérité Estate is located in the foothills of the Mayacamas Mountain range at the southern tip of Sonoma County's Alexander Valley. This unique location is just north of the confluence of the Chalk Hill and Knights Valley appellations, an area know for superior soil, climate, and potential to express a strong sense of terroir.

About this Wine:

Bound by precision, elegance and grace, Le Désir is a Cabernet Franc-based blend that exudes high-toned, exotic aromatics, an iron graphite core and pronounced minerality. It is a complex symphony, at first presenting a quiet force that needs time to unveil its many delicate and mysterious layers.

Tasting Notes

The hallmark of the 2015 Le Désir is its structured and precise palate. There is a line here, a balance between softness and hardness: iron-rich, rocky minerality, aromas of new leather and cigar, the clear, driving expression of bright red fruit.

Wild blackberries, cherries, and crisp apple join with the signature herbal tone of Cabernet Franc. Fresh, subtle pea shoots and heirloom tomato vine, notes of red licorice and tobacco box pave the way to a linear, silky finish, resounding with a floral bouquet of lilacs and violets.

Composition

64% Cabernet Franc
27% Merlot
5% Cabernet Sauvignon
4% Malbec

Ratings & Reviews

100 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"A blend of 64% Cabernet Franc, 27% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Malbec, the very deep garnet-purple colored 2015 Le Desir is a little reticent at this very youthful stage, offering glimpses at dusty soil, iron ore, black truffles and salami notes over a core of red currant jelly, black raspberries, blackberries and star anise plus a waft of roses. Medium-bodied, very firm and very elegant yet incredibly intense in the mouth, it delivers loads of red fruit and earthy layers, finishing with great length and depth. 2,500 cases produced." - Lisa Perrotti-Brown (Feb 2018)

98 Points - James Suckling:
"Love the aromas of black cherries and blackberries, violets and roses. Stunning. Full-bodied, layered and dense with focus and precision. Full tannins, yet compressed and polished. A great cabernet franc-based red. Give this four to five years of bottle age before drinking but already beautiful to taste." (May 23, 2018)

96-98 Points - Vinous Media:
"The 2015 Le Desir, Vérité's Cabernet Franc-based red, is racy and sumptuous in the glass. Bright floral notes give lift to the red-toned fruit as this silky yet powerful wine shows off its alluring personality." - Antonio Galloni (Apr 2018)
