About the Winery:
Over the course of 300+ years, since 1716, Quinta do Vallado has been producing excellent wines in Portugal’s Douro Valley. It is one of the oldest and most famous wineries in all the Douro, started by the legendary Doña Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, and still belongs to the same family today. It is a sixth-generation winery, currently owned by João Ferreira Alvares Ribeiro and Francisco Ferreira. The estate produced Port wines exclusively, until the 1990’s when it expanded production into dry wines.

Vallado has 250 acres of its own vineyards in two sub-regions of the Douro. They are comprised 100-year-old field blend vines, single variety plots and certified organic vineyards. The terraced vineyards are hand-harvested with one row of vines trained to a double cordon trellising system, allowing for good drainage, air flow and erosion control.

Notes From the Winemaker:

The Quinta Do Vallado 10 year-old Tawny is rich with aromas of dried fruit and tabacco. The mouthfeel is rich and velvety with a complex finish.

The grapes come from Estate vineyards. After hand-picking, destemming and crushing, sugar is added and the resulting must is fermented in very old 600 liter oak casks and other old vats.

A terrific after-dinner drink, this Port is the perfect accompaniment to blue cheese

Ratings & Reviews

94 Points - Decanter Magazine:
"A complex weave of fig, date, almond and earthy aromas, reinforced and well-matched on the long and complex palate. A delightful marriage between textural quality and sweetness." (Aug 2017)

93 Points - James Suckling:
"Pretty aromas of dried berries, cedar and candied orange peel follow through to a medium body and a very sweet palate, with oranges, plums and a nutty undertone such as peanuts. Very fresh and sweet. Tastes older than 10 years and in a very good way! Drink now. (Jan 2023)

92 Points - Wine & Spirits:
"The descendants of Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira farm this property along the Corgo River, just above Regua. Their latest ten-year-old Tawny is sleek and classical, generous in its cherry-plum richness, elegant and bright in its integration of alcohol. Pour it with fresh almonds."

91 Points - Wine Spectator:
"Features raisin, fruitcake, singed sandalwood and dried currant notes, but carries itself through a fresh finish, with a flash of bergamot adding lift. Drink now. 125 cases made, 25 cases imported." - JM (Mar 2019)

90 Points - Wine Advocate:
"The NV 10 Year Old Tawny Port was bottled in 2014. It is an old vines field blend coming in at 110.4 grams per liter of residual sugar. Showing fine complexity for a 10, this adds a hint of treacle around the edges on opening and then becomes a classic 10--fresh and lively. It has a sweet conclusion, but the nice acidity keeps this on track. It's sunny demeanor and impeccable balance make it a pleasure to drink. There were 1,700 bottles (500ml) produced." - Mark Squires (Mar 2016)
