Notes from the Winemaker:
Rich, succulent fruit sit first and foremost in this Brunello Riserva, but the wine's secondary notes of cigar wrapper, saddle leather, earth, baking spices and potpourri offer compelling cameos. Silky, lush and seductive, this '09 Riserva is a knockout. One of the very first single-vineyard Brunellos, the Valdicava Madonna del Piano very much set the standard for cru Brunello. Organically grown and meticulously produced, Valdicava Brunello have made a reputation for elegant, suave, velvety Brunello, wines that have won the hearts of wine-lovers around the globe. This cru Brunello Riserva is always a knockout, and the ripe, seductive 2010 vintage makes it approachable earlier than usual.

Ratings & Reviews

100 Points & #27 Top 100 Wines of 2016 & #8 Top 100 Italian Wines of 2016 - James Suckling:
"A wine with superb finesse and depth. So subtle and understated yet powerful and long. The tannin intensity is amazing. It just builds like a massive wave. Superb. Give this time in the bottle. The length is endless. Better in 2018." (November 9, 2016)

96 Points - Wine Spectator:
"A pure, focused style, with a beam of black cherry anchoring the leather, mineral, hibiscus tea and earth flavors. Well-struc- tured, young and fresh, presenting a lingering aftertaste of fruit, mineral and woodsy details. Best from 2019 through 2035." - BS (Mar 23, 2016)

93-96 Points - Vinous Media:
"The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Madonna del Piano is shaping up to be a real beauty. Powerful and dramatic, but also remarkably polished for such a big wine, the 2010 has a lot going on. Raspberry jam, wild flowers, spices, new leather, smoke and tobacco are laced into the powerful intense finish. The 2010 is an especially finessed Madonna del Piano with a bright future." - Antonio Galloni (February 2015)
