About the Winery:
Tua Rita is a winery situated in Suvereto, Tuscany. When Rita and Virgilio bought it in 1984, the land was supposed to offer just the picturesque surroundings in which they would live in touch with nature. Those original 2 hectares of vines have now become 51 hectares.Today, what started as amusing ‘vins de garage’, are wines that are exported everywhere in the world thanks to the marketing of Rita and Virgilio’s son-in-law, Stefano Frascolla. The wines of Tua Rita all have one element in common: the personality of the earth with its ferrous notes and a penetrating and rapid, progressive development of their flavor. 

About the Wine:
Redigaffi is a breathtaking, iconic wine made entirely from estate Merlot. The perfectly manicured vineyards are planted to ensure low yields and the greatest quality of the grapes. Extra long maceration with the skins and manual, frequent punch downs allow for Redigaffis outstanding concentration and complexity. The wine is matured on the lees for eighteen months in French oak barrels and bottled without fining or filtration. It is a Merlot in purity that owes its name to a small stream that flows near the property. When in 1994 Rita and Virgilio removed two barriques of Merlot from production, perhaps they did not think they had created what would become an international cult-wine.

From those vineyards planted in 1988, in the heart of the slightly sloping property, an exceptional fruit was born. Their position, the composition of the soils and the microclimate in their combination had given life to this unique wine. Redigaffi is the first Italian wine to obtain Robert Parker's 100/100.

Tasting Notes:
Deep, intense purple in color, with tremendous extraction, Redigaffi is a monumental and beautifully structured wine that shows how well the non-native Merlot has adapted to the area around Suvereto on the Tuscan coast. It offers luscious layers of raspberry.

Medium- to full-bodied with tannins that run the length of the wine and show a compact and structured sensibility and wonderful length and finesse. Focused, with a classy texture.
