About the Winery:
Built in 1886, John and Janet Trefethen began restoring what is today the Trefethen winery in 1973. A national historic landmark and the only wooden gravity-flow winery in the Napa Valley, Trefethen is also one of Napa's largest estate wineries, with its 600 acres of vineyards surrounding the winery. Trefethen is the largest land holder in Napa's smallest AVA - Oak Knoll. 100% of their wines are created from estate fruit that is sustainably farmed.

About this Wine:
Our Nana, Catherine Trefethen, was Welsh. Her twin loves of wine and family were the original inspiration for our estate in Napa Valley’s Oak Knoll District. Celebrating our heritage, “Y Ddraig Goch”, the symbol of Wales, adorns this bottle of Dragon’s Tooth, a provocative blend born from the rockiest part of our vineyard.

Tasting Notes:
Pronounced aromas of blueberry, plum and cassis are layered with earthy notes of leather and molasses. Rich and substantial on the palate, flavors of more blueberry, plum and cherry carry over to a long, toasty finish.

Ratings & Reviews

97 Points - Decanter:
“Intrepid aromas of richly peppered blue and black fruit with a sheen of minty refreshment. Structured, polished and densely textured, with indulgent tannins and a penetrating bead of fine acidity. Built for the long haul.” - 2024 Decanter World Wine Awards

93 Points - James Suckling:
"Pure, layered and delicious, the wine is balanced, charming and easy to sip, with moderate tannins. Nicely concentrated blackberries, blueberries and dark chocolate seem to deepen in the glass, filling the palate and lingering on the finish. Blended from 49% Malbec, 37% Petit Verdot and 14% Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink or hold." - Jim Gordon (Mar 2024)

90 Points - Wine Spectator:
"Spiced plum, cherry and berry flavors are amplified by bittersweet chocolate, tobacco and date nut bread accents, along with hints of cola and dried herbs. Shows good concentration and length. Malbec, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now. 7,200 cases made." - MW (Dec 2024)
