About the Winery:
Founded in 1998, Pier Luigi Tolaini hired famed enologist Michel Rolland and Tuscan agronomist Andrea Paoletti, who put together a team that share Pierluigi's vision - to make the best wines possible with one vitally unique ingredient - the terroir of Chianti Classico's southern most commune: Castelnuovo Berardenga. A true marriage of tradition and modern technology. The belief in the "best fruit produces the best wine" is the fundamental principal of the Tolaini estate. High density planting per hectare and low yield per plant is a proven strategy worldwide in producing excellent quality fruit. With up to 8,300 plants per hectare in the less hilly vineyards, drip irrigation for each plant, and two green harvests to pre-select the healthiest and most promising bunches on the vine, the Tolaini property produces fruit of unsurpassable quality. This fruit is evident in every mouthful of the estate's five incredible red wines.

Ratings & Reviews

95 Points - Wine Advocate:
"Showing great warm-vintage intensity and focus, the Tolaini 2020 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna Montebello Sette represents a deep dive into Sangiovese. This elegant expression of the grape (delivered in a production of 15,000 bottles) shows a bold fruit profile with spot-on ripeness and bold cherry. It follows through with a mildly creamy texture. More depth is provided thanks to delicate mineral shadings and lightly toasted spice. These are balanced and elegant results." - Monica Larner (Jul 2024)

93 Points - Decanter Magazine:
"Sweet, slightly oxidised aromas of prunes, Morello cherries, mushrooms and salted chocolate. Chewy, mouthcoating tannins and crisp acidity. Big, showy and rich, with vanilla, raspberries and toasty oak. Well framed, with a long, balanced finish." (May 2024)

92 Points - Wine Spectator:
"Resounding with energy, this red offers flavors of cherry, raspberry, iron, tobacco and black pepper. Remains long and balanced in the end, with a line of dusty tannins girding the finish. Best from 2026 through 2042. 1,100 cases made, 250 cases imported." - Bruce Sanderson (Sep 2024)

91 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
"The nose is sweet and earthy, with aromas of vanilla, cherry and orange peel, but also top soil and crushed rocks. The palate is a fruit basket of strawberries, raspberries and more cherries, along with a dusting of orange zest. Acid buzzes around smooth yet dense tannins. - Danielle Callegari (Sep 2024)
