About the Winery:
Founded in 2018 by Giancarlo Pacenti, Terre di Montalcino is a sustainable winery located in Montalcino, Tuscany, producing 36,000 bottles of Brunello di Montalcino annually. Fruit for Terre di Montalcino is sourced from vines aged 15 years and younger in the historic Pacenti family vineyards, which were planted in the 1960’s and have been sustained into the 21st century by sélection massale.
About this Wine:
Terre di Montalcino employs meticulous winemaking techniques to produce their Brunello di Montalcino. The process begins with hand-harvesting Sangiovese grapes from sustainably farmed vineyards, followed by optical and hand-sorting to ensure only the best berries are used. Fermentation takes place in steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 77°F for 3-4 weeks, utilizing indigenous yeast and cold maceration. The wine then undergoes 24 months of refinement in 225-liter French oak barriques and concrete vats, followed by an additional 18 months in bottle. This careful approach results in a deep, translucent ruby wine with velvety tannins and lively acidity, reflecting the authentic character of Montalcino and offering both immediate enjoyment and potential for further aging.
The Brunello di Montalcino from Terre di Montalcino is easy to like. It is a wine that delivers the structure, presence, and length of a true Brunello and marries those qualities with a pristine core of cherry fruit buoyed by balanced and juicy acidity. It is a meticulously crafted wine, reflective of territory and tradition, that will improve in bottle, but which begs to be drunk now.
