About the Winery:

The name de Aetna is inspired by the title of a Latin pamphlet that dates from 1494 and expresses the sacredness of the oenological universe.

Run by father-son duo Dino Constantino and Fabio, the Terra Costantino estate is located on the south-eastern slope of Mt. Etna. Their 10 hectares of vineyards stretch across the mid-slope of this still-active volcano. Certified Organic since 2002, this family operated winery produces white wines from Carricante and Catarratto, as well as reds from Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio.

Medium-bodied on the palate. "De Aetna" is an elegant, fresh and mineral wine, vinified and aged in steel. Scents of white fruits, citrus and aromatic herbs emerge from a pleasantly smoky aromas and animate a direct, harmonious and balanced sip, played on freshness, savory and persistence.

From the Terra Costantino vineyards on Etna’s south-eastern slope at Contrada Blandano, situated in the Viagrande territory, we can see the sea and taste the windblown tang of salt. The great volcano that sits behind the property protects the vines from frosts brought by the northerly ‘Tramontana’ wind. The estate, comprised of a single ten-hectare plot sitting between 450 and 550 meters above sea level, lies in the heart of the Etna DOC zone.

Ratings & Reviews:

92 Points - James Suckling:                                                                                      "Crazy aromas of dried fruits with a unique undertone of volcanic notes, like sulfur. Full-bodied with plenty of fruit with dried apple and honey as well as pineapple. It’s dense and real with excellent length and focus."

90 Points - Wine Spectator:                                                                                      "Lightly toasty on the nose, with nut, oak spice and lime blossom accents that are more subtle on the palate, enmeshed with white cherry and mandarin orange flavors. Sleek and fresh, a well-knit, light- to medium-bodied white."
