About the Winery:
Tenute Cisa Asinari dei Marchesi di Grésy (often simply referred to as Marchesi di Grésy) is a well-regarded wine producer located just east of Alba, in Piedmont, northwestern Italy. Its central winery is based in Martinenga, in the heart of winery is the Barbaresco winemaking region, and it is most famous for its wines made under the Barbaresco DOCG. The estate has been in the possession of the di Grésy family since 1797, and began producing wines in 1973.

The estate boasts four key vineyards from Langhe to Monferrato: Martinenga in Barbaresco, Monte Aribaldo in Treiso and La Serra and Monte Colombo in Cassine.

The 24-hectare (59-acre) Martinenga vineyard yields three different Barbaresco wines from different parts of the vineyard: Martinenga, Camp Gros Martinenga and Gaiun Martinenga. Approximately half of the vineyard is planted to Nebbiolo, with the remainder planted to Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Barbera and Cabernet Saugignon.

The Monte Aribaldo vineyard covers 10 hectares (25 acres) of land and is planted with Dolcetto, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. La Serra in the Monferrato region is planted with 11 hectares (27 acres) of Moscato and Barbera to make Moscato d'Asti and Barbera d'Asti wines.

The small Monte Colombo vineyard is planted with a combination of Merlot and Barbera d'Asti. In 1982, the estate expanded its output further to include a series of six grappas.

Ratings & Reviews

94 Points - Decanter:
"I tasted this soon after bottling, then again blind six months later – it has truly come into its own and is undoubtedly among the vintage’s successes. Expressing complexities slowly, it wafts with freshly turned earth, dry dusty rose, nutmeg, smoke and wild forest berries. Pretty, elegant and slim in build without lacking depth, the pristine, juicy fruit is superbly balanced with grainy tannins and underlying citrussy acidity. Martinenga’s innate class is on full display. Note that the estate also made their Camp Gros and Gaiun bottlings in 2022: I look forward to trying these next year. Drinking Window: 2026-2036." -Michaela Morris (Feb 2026)

94 Points - Falstaff:
"Soft, shiny ruby colour with a garnet-red hue. Expressive nose of fully ripe cherries and plums, followed by geraniums and forest floor as well as some sealing wax, multi-layered. Polished initially on the palate, followed by a core of concentrated fruit, firm tannins, gentle persistence on the long finish." (Oct 2025)

93 Points - Wine Advocate:
"The Tenute Cisa Asinari dei Marchesi di Gresy 2022 Barbaresco Martinenga comes from a 6.5-hectare site at 250 meters above sea level, planted on marl and limestone soils in the heart of Barbaresco. From a hot and dry vintage, the wine shows high intensity, with dark plum fruit and toasted spice over a medium- to full-bodied mouthfeel that feels polished and fine in texture. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, followed by 12 months in French barrique and an additional 12 months in Slavonian oak botte. Production is 18,000 bottles. Martinenga is one of the historic monopole vineyards of the estate and has long been celebrated for producing elegant and age-worthy expressions of Nebbiolo. Drinking Window: 2026-2038." -Monica Larner (Jul 2026)

92 Points - Wine Spectator:
"This perfumed Barbaresco exudes cherry, raspberry, rose petal, sweet spice and white pepper flavors. Succulent, with dusty tannins lining the finish. Enjoy this on the earlier side for its expressive fruit. Best from 2027 through 2038. 1,500 cases made, 700 cases imported." -Bruce Sanderson (Apr 2026)
