About This Wine:
The three single-vineyards of Domaine Tempier are: La Migoua, La Tourtine, and Cabassaou. All are made up of clay and limestone, but there are variations in each. La Migoua is made up of heterogeneous clay that varies in color between red, ochre, and blue.

At 270 meters, it sits at the highest altitude of all the vineyards. The parcels complex sedimentation is largely due to the subduction of a tectonic plate which has surfaced the oldest rock outcroppings in the whole of the appellation. Surrounded by garrigue and pine forest, the grapes translate to earthy, gamey wines. La Migoua has the smallest amount of  Mourvedre in the blend, with the highest percentage of Grenache of the three cuves.

GRAPE VARIETIES:
50% Mourvedre, 20% Grenache, 26% Cinsault, 4% Syrah

Vinification

After destemming, the grapes are traditionally fermented with natural yeast; vinified for 2 or 3 weeks in temperature-controlled stainless steel or concrete vats. Once pressed, the wine is put in large oak casks (25 to 75hl) to complete malolactic fermentation and to mature for 18 to 20 months. Bottled without fining nor filtering.

Tasting Notes

Charming wine combining style and complexity. Wild in character, yet balanced, this wine only gets better with time.

Ratings & Reviews

90-92 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (2014 vintage):
"From a slightly higher elevation site, the 2014 Bandol La Migoua is an elegant, complex 2014 that offers bright acidity, lots of black cherry and black raspberry fruits, medium-bodied richness and fine, sweet tannin. The acidity would give me pause, yet it has terrific mid-palate depth and surprising concentration, all of which suggest short-term cellaring." - Jeb Dunnuck (Apr 19th, 2016)

93 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine (2013 Vintage):
"Racy in feel, with vivid plum, red currant and raspberry coulis flavors stretching out nicely, picking up light anise and juniper accents along the way. Reveals a leathery echo on the finish. For the cellar. Best from 2018 through 2030. 227 cases imported." - JM (Nov 30th, 2016)

93 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine (2012 Vintage):
"Offers a grippy, tarry feel, with blackberry and plum compote flavors at the core, lined with lots of dried anise and fruitcake notes. Pretty violet and lavender details fill in on the finish, with a serious bolt of iron pinning everything down. Needs time to stretch out fully. Best from 2016 through 2026. 250 cases imported." - JM (Oct 15, 2015)
