About the Whisky:

The first edition in the Wonders Of Wood series.

Teeling's award-winning single pot still whiskey crafted from a recipe of 50% malted barley and 50% unmalted barley and triple distilled in their Dublin distillery

Fully matured in virgin chinkapin American white oak casks. Chinkapin oak is native to Eastern and Central North America with a wide grain and is similar to chestnut oak. When used for the maturation of Irish whiskey it produces a truly different taste experience layering on a distinctive gingerbread spice and banana cake sweetness unique to Irish whiskey.

In partnership with The Tree Council Of Ireland, the Wonders Of Wood series will help to plant exclusively native Irish tree species in our own designated acre of land in the Wicklow area of Ireland.

Tasting Notes:

NOSE: Ripe red fruits, berries and pears with toasted wood and spice

TASTE: A balance of fruits and spice with oak tannins and burnt sugar

FINISH: Dry finish with honey, spice and lingering fruit notes

100 proof

Awards/Reviews:

94 Points, Top 100 Spirits Of 2023 - Wine Enthusiast

"Chinkapin, a type of North American oak, is the sole wood used to mature this pot-stilled whiskey. Here, it imparts a deep, burnished gold hue and bold, des sert-like aromas and flavors: dulce de leche, vanilla cookies, spiced cocoa and cinnamon heat. This is the debut expression in the “Wonders of Wood” series in partnership with Tree Council of Ireland."

92 Points - Ultimate Spirits Challenge 2023

"Soft and fruity on the nose, with red cherries, cantaloupe, marzipan, and hints of fennel. Oaky and rich on the palate, with wonderful spice and nut notes alongside hints of tobacco and spearmint before a long, toasted finish ensues."

World's Best Pot Still Whiskey - World Whiskies Awards 2022

"The nose is quite earthy, with a touch of smoke. It shows a good, rich spirit character, with some rose petal notes. The palate opens with toasty oak and barley. It is zesty and fresh, with some citrus balanced by some sweetness. The palate has good depth, with hints of oily malt, spice and again youthful rose petal. There are lingering toasty oak and wood spices."

93 Points & #19 Top 20 of 2022 - Whisky Advocate

"Master distiller Alex Chasko selected wide-grain virgin Chinkapin American white oak casks to fully mature this batch of distinctive Dublin-made single pot still whiskey. The fresh oak has deeply etched its character on the spirit with savory and spicy aromas of roasted sweet chestnut, marron glacé, licorice, pecan, and treacle, followed by a deliciously yielding palate of black fruits, forest honey, clove, cola, and Brazil nut."

Gold - Irish Whiskey Masters 2022

91 Points - Intl Wine & Spirits Competition 2022

"A lovely fruity nose with wonderful notes of coffee and chocolate. The palate is more linear with an appealing spicy character and hints of citrus. Superbly characterful!"

"A bourbon-like sensibility...that comes, no doubt, from the exaggerated oak flavors. It’s still an Irish whiskey, but the prevalence of oak adds a sweetness and a nuttiness you don’t always find in other Irish whiskies." - The Whiskey Warsh
