About the Whisky:
Introducing Teeling Wonders of Wood Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey Virgin Portuguese Oak Finish, the newest in a series that was named "World's Best Pot Still" at the 2022 World Whiskies Awards. Crafted to explore the full spectrum of flavours that Irish Whiskey can offer, this limited-edition bottling – the second release of the series – features a unique cask maturation and is bottled at 50% ABV to ensure the whiskey's true character is retained.
Produced at Dublin's first new distillery in 125 years, this release in the Wonders of Wood series has a mash bill of 50% malted barley and 50% unmalted barley and is finished in Virgin Portuguese Oak, a wood with a higher tannin content than other oaks typically used to age whiskey. The result is a truly unique Irish Whiskey with savoury marmalade flavour and warming hints of tobacco. Only a limited number of bottles of this whiskey have been produced.
The Wonders of Wood series comes in a embossed Teeling Whiskey bottle with a gift-ready case.
In partnership with The Tree Council of Ireland, the Wonders of Wood series will help to plant exclusively native Irish tree species in our own designated acres of land in Ireland. The first release allowed for an acre of native oak trees to be planted in the Glencree region of County Wicklow just outside of Dublin, and the second release will allow for a second acre to be planted in County Dublin. "No easy feat to balance single pot still flavors with full virgin oak cask maturation, but Teeling nailed it here, and produced an interesting whiskey to boot. Dark, spicy, and full of intrigue, the nose brings dark toffee, Nutella, cacao, hot pepper, clove, dried citrus slice, leather, and dunnage floors. Weighty and complex with flavors of chocolate, Brazil nut, pepper, baked citrus, stewed fruit, clove, nutmeg, and coffee grounds." (93 pts)
