About the Winery:

Taub Family Vineyards was born out of a dream four generations in the making. It’s a story that began during a pivotal time in U.S. wine history, just days after Prohibition was repealed, and one that is far from completion. The latest chapter is now unfolding as Proprietor Marc D. Taub and his son Jake explore some of California’s most exciting appellations.

The winery represents some of the best sites in Napa Valley. Each wine embodies a pure expression of its respective AVA and vineyard microsite and are crafted for elegance and extraordinary balance.

Notes from the Winemaker:

AVA: Rutherford, Clones: 337 and 7, Rootstock: O39-16. Located between Conn Creek Road and Silverado Trail within the Rutherford AVA. Alluvial soils. Gravelly, sandy loam.

Grapes are hand-harvested, destemmed, and hand-sorted. Cold soak lasts for 3-5 days, followed by approximately 14 days of fermentation with three daily pump-overs. Fermented to dry on skins with an additional 7 to 14 days extended maceration to optimize the flavor, mouthfeel and tannin structure of the wine. Drained, pressed, and transferred to French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and ageing. Aged for 22 months in 75% new French oak.

GRAPE VARIETAL: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon

Acidity: 3.82
Alcohol: 14.9%

Tasting Notes:
Deep blackish purple in color with a seductive aromatic bouquet of blackberries, dark cherries, and red currants intermingled with perfumed floral notes, tea leaves, cedar, and clove spice. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is dense, deep, and seamlessly layered, displaying loads of delicious, ripe dark and red fruit flavors intermingled with savory herbal accents, subtle toasted oak, and earthy minerality. The intense, packed palate is framed by fine-grained tannins and a bright, lively backbone, leading to an elegantly balanced, long-lingering finish.

Ratings & Reviews

93 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
"From the famous site, this well-integrated wine offers wide appeal and an enduring plush, supple core of black fruit dusted in black pepper and clove. The oak is toasted and present, emphasizing seasonings of clove and vanilla." - VB (Nov 2021)

91 Points - Wine Spectator:
"This has an overt and fruit-forward profile, with a bum-rush of cassis, plum pâte de fruit and cherry compote flavors backed by melted licorice and fruitcake notes. Then the structure asserts itself on the finish, showing a toothy, brambly edge that wins on guts, but lacks refinement. The typical 2017 profile. Drink now through 2032. 247 cases made." - JM (Oct 2021)
