Notes from the Winemaker:

The Rincon Pinot Noir was fermented in open top bins with native yeast. We leave 30% of the grapes as whole cluster and 70% is de-stemmed. The wine aged 16 months in 32% new French oak barrels.

Vineyard Notes:
Perched atop our Rincon Vineyard, the hills provide sweeping views of the Arroyo Grande Valley and yield some of our finest Pinot Noir. The early years of Pinot Noir cultivation in the San Luis Obispo Coast region were marked by challenges, with more consistent successes in Santa Barbara County. Don Talley’s discovery of UCD Clone 2A from Wadenswil, Switzerland, at UC Davis proved pivotal. This superior clone, coupled with careful farming, moderate yields, and the unique shale and calcareous soils of the Arroyo Grande Valley, began to draw attention.

Ratings & Reviews

95 Points - The Wine Independat:
"The 2022 Rincon Vineyard Pinot Noir was made with about 1/3 whole cluster. Pale to medium ruby-purple colored, it leaps from the glass with exuberant notes of fresh red currant and cranberries, leading to an undercurrent of roses, Provence herbs, iron ore, and mint tea. The medium-bodied palate is delicately styled with wonderful freshness and vivacity, offering silky tannins to frame the red berry and floral layers, finishing on a lingering ferrous note." - Lisa Perrotti-Brown (Oct 2024)

95 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:
"Classic Burgundian notes of red and black fruits, spice box, forest floor, and baking spice notes all shine in the 2022 Pinot Noir Rincon Vineyard, a beautifully textured, medium to full-bodied, balanced 2022 that has the vintage’s ripe, forward style while bringing incredible complexity and length. The 2022 was fermented with 30% stems and spent 16 months in 32% new French oak." - Jeb Dunnuck (Aug 2024)

94 Points - Decanter Magazine:
"From atop the Rincon Vineyard, this Pinot Noir is comprised of the Wadenswil 2A clone. Aromatics include plenty of dusty red fruits and a definitive mineral tone alongside lilac and dried rose violets. On the palate, flavours of sweet, dusty rose petals and spicy wild berries come rushing forward. There's a great sense of exotic spice and green tea leaves that carry through to the finish. It's a wine of pure deliciousness." - Clive Pursehouse (Mar 2025 )

93 Points - James Suckling:
"Substantive, structured and age-worthy, this wine wraps moderate tannins around delicious fruit and savory flavors. Black cherries, red cherries, iron, mushrooms and forest floor nuances on a medium body. Sustainable. Drink now or hold." - JS (Aug 2024)
