About the Winery:
Founded in 1982 by Robert Talbott this vineyard crafts luxurious, estate-grown Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in Monterey County’s prestigious Santa Lucia Highlands AVA.Vinous Media's Josh Raynolds wrote this background in May 2022:

"If any winery can claim to be a pioneer of Monterey County, it’s Talbott, which was established in 1982, in Carmel. Seemingly overnight, Talbott set a new standard for California, indeed, American Chardonnay. Talbott’s impact on the world’s view of the variety from the Golden State was altered, unlike anything seen since Chalone Vineyards arrived on the scene in 1972. The Sleepy Hollow estate vineyard, which was originally planted in 1972, now sprawls across 565 acres and has always been the source for most of the winery’s fruit. Now owned by the Gallo family (since 2015) quality at Talbott continues at an admirably high level, even if the competition has become fiercer. Recent years’ bottlings, under the direction of head winemaker David Coventry, have been the best wines ever made here, especially when it comes to Pinot Noir."

About this Wine:
Fruit for Kali Hart Pinot Noir originated from Talbott's legendary Sleepy Hollow Vineyard and Olson Ranch in the Central Coast, where the cool climate allows for longer hang-time and intense flavor development. Sleepy Hollow Vineyard is known for producing richly concentrated Pinot Noir. The Olson Ranch is located at the southern tip of the Santa Lucia Highlands, where limestone-laced soils create rich, concentrated characteristics in the grapes.

Tasting Notes

The 2021 Kali Hart Pinot Noir is a fruit-forward expression of coastal-influenced vineyards in Santa Lucia Highlands, California. Aromas of ripe black cherry and plum greet the nose with inviting notes of toasted vanilla and warm clove. Soft, silky tannins reveal layers of crushed blackberry and strawberry with a hint of savory herbs. The finish is long and luscious with a touch of minerality.

Ratings & Reviews

93 Points & Editor's Choice - Wine Enthusiast:
"This is one of the most reliably delicious while-affordable Pinot Noirs in California. Bright but concentrated aromas of strawberry cream, singed sage and crushed rock kick off the nose. The palate is satisfyingly rich with baked cherry and pecan pie flavors, yet tense in texture and zippy in acidity." *Editors’ Choice* MK (1/2023)
