About the Winery:
This iconic California winery was founded by Robb Talbott in 1982 with the planting of the original mountaintop Diamond T Estate Vineyard and the construction of the original winery in Carmel Valley. The winery’s first release of Chardonnay was in 1983. In 1994, the Talbotts acquired the Sleepy Hollow Vineyard and the property became the home to the current winery. Winemakers Dan Karlsen and Robb Talbott guide Talbott’s Chardonnay and Pinot Noir programs. Dan Karlsen is a Pinot Noir specialist with over 30 years of winemaking experience.
Notes from the Winemaker:
Winemaker Dan Karlsen selected the most exceptional barrels of Pinot Noir from the Sleepy Hollow Vineyard for the 2011 Talbott Pinot Noir, Cuvee Sarah Case. This wine has a beautiful dark red color with rich cherry, berry and spice aromas. On the palate, it is like an iron fist in a velvet glove with concentrated layers of ripe fruit surrounded by round, velvety tannins. French oak aging adds additional notes of smoke and spice that continue throughout the long, satisfying finish.
Ratings & Reviews
93 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"My favorite of the Pinots and more fresh and lively than the Diamond T Pinot Noir, the 2011 Pinot Noir Sleepy Hollow Vineyard Cuvee Sarah Case offers gorgeous complexity and elegance, with sweet cherries, red currants, spice box, underbrush and earthy nuances giving way to a rich, medium to full-bodied red that has silky tannin, great acidity and an all-around classy feel. It will be better in another year or two and have a decade of longevity, possibly longer." - Jeb Dunnuck (Aug 2013)
92 Points - Vinous Media:
"(80% new French oak): Brilliant ruby-red. Intense red fruit compote, vanilla and woodsmoke aromas are lifted by peppery spice and floral notes. Juicy, sweet and penetrating, offering fresh raspberry and cherry flavors and a hint of cola. The vanilla quality comes back on the impressively persistent finish, which features smooth, harmonious tannins and a touch of candied flowers." - Josh Raynolds (Nov 2013)
