Notes From the Winemaker:

The Tablas Creek Vineyard Patelin de Tablas Rosé is a rosé blend in the tradition of Provence, produced from three red Rhône varietals: Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Counoise, with an addition of Vermentino. The wine incorporates fruit from ten top Rhône vineyards in Paso Robles, each vineyard selected for its quality. Like most rosé wines from the Rhône Valley, it is based on the bright strawberry fruit and fresh acidity of Grenache, with additions of deeper red fruit and structure from Mourvèdre and spice from Counoise. Many Provence rosés incorporate small amounts of Vermentino -- a white grape -- for citrusy lift and we are doing so for the first time this vintage.

Tasting Notes:

A pretty light peach color. On the nose, bright aromatics of mandarin orange, cherry blossom, wild strawberry, and chalky minerals. The mouth is bursting with yellow plum and nectarine, salty minerality, bright acids, and a lingering finish with notes of sea spray and citrus pith. Drink over the next year or two.

Technical information:

Blend: 67% Grenache, 21% Mourvedre, 9% Counoise, 3% Vermentino

Ratings & Reviews

93 Points - Decanter Magazine:
"A delicious pale pink rosé from the Paso Robles icons Tablas Creek. This blend is interesting, with Grenache leading the way, followed by Mourvèdre, Counoise and a surprising Vermentino. The Patelin de Tablas comes from 10 different vineyards but mainly Whalerock. The wine is fresh and zesty. It will drink well alone but has enough spine to be paired with grilled foods for the rest of the summer. Aromas of rhubarb, dandelion greens and cranberry, a lively palate with cut strawberries, crushed chalk, and a zippy finish marked by savoury green herbs." - Clive Pursehouse (July 2023)

92 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
"Showing almost more like a white wine than a pink one, this blend of 67% Grenache, 21% Mourvèdre, 9% Counoise and 3% Vermentino is a yellow hue in the glass, offering pleasant honey, daffodil and light apple aromas. It's very textural on the palate, where honey, toasted cashew and lemon cream flavors work in harmony." - Matt Kettmann (Nov 2023)

92 Points - James Suckling:
"Attractive fruit here with peaches, forest berries and sweet spices. Medium body with a creamy texture. Well-rounded with plenty of juicy fruit and spices intermingling on the palate and onto the satisfying, bright finish. Drink now. Screw cap." (Sep 2023)

91 Points - Vinous Media:
"The 2022 Rosé Patelin de Tablas is pleasantly floral and sweet, with pretty white strawberry and mint aromas. Soothingly round and juicy, this impresses with its energy and floral-laced peach tones. It finishes with a twang of bitter tension while leaving the mouth watering for more. The blend of 67% Grenache, 21% Mourvedre, 9% Couniose and 3% Vermentino is incredibly pretty." - Eric Guido (May 2023)
