Notes From the Winemaker:
The 2023 Tablas Creek Vineyard Grenache Blanc is Tablas Creek’s twenty-second bottling of its 100% Grenache Blanc. The Grenache Blanc grape, a widely planted but rarely acknowledged southern Rhone varietal, is the white variant of the better-known Grenache Noir. It has been a remarkable success in California since we introduced it in 1997, producing wines with full body, good acidity, and flavors of citrus, anise, and green apple.
Tasting Notes:
A classic Grenache Blanc nose of baked green apple, chalky minerals, anise, and sage butter. On the palate, flavors of lemon drop and apple galette, lovely rich texture kept in check by vibrant acids and Grenache Blanc's phenolic architecture that offers a hint of tannin on the finish.
Technical information:
Blend: 100% Grenache Blanc
Appellation: Adelaida District Paso Robles
ABV: 13.5%
Ratings & Reviews
93 Points - Vinous Media
“The 2023 Grenache Blanc is wickedly fresh. A burst of lime zest and dried herbs unveil crushed rocks and hints of tropical melon. This sweeps across the palate with ripe orchard fruits and hints of candied citrus. The Grenache Blanc shows
admirable length and a crunchy sensation; a lemon concentration keeps the mouth watering for more.”
92 Points - James Suckling
“Honeydew melon, baking spices and lemon confit on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with a generous texture, giving notes of Asian pears, orange rind and cut grass. Fresh and vibrant. Drink or hold.”
90-92 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"Led by a weighty, waxy nose, the 2023 Grenache Blanc centers around ripe yellow orchard fruit aromas with floral, stony accents. The palate displays a beautiful combination of midrange breadth and richness with a tensile, coiled structure,
especially evident in the long, detailed and mineral-tinged finish. Perennially, this is one of the reference points for this variety in California, and I look forward to revisiting this from bottle.”
