About the Winery:
Vigne Surrau takes its name from the Surrau Valley, located between the communes of Arzachena and Palau in the heart of the Gallura appellation in northern Sardinia. Tucked among the rugged hills with an impressive view of the Limbara granite massif, the winery is a short fifteen-minute drive to the Costa Smeralda and the crystalline waters of the Mediterranean Sea. The Demuro family, owners of Vigne Surrau, are native Sardinians and have practiced viticulture for generations.
Today, Vigne Surrau comprises 60 hectares across eight vineyards on the eastern side of Gallura. From the beginning, Vigne Surrau was built around Vermentino, and today it is 70% of the winery’s production. Vermentino di Gallura is known to be the best expression of Vermentino on the island, reflecting the characteristics of the area, from the granite soil and the macchia Mediterranean, to the Mistral sea breezes that blow across the vineyard. Surrau produces four bottlings of Vermentino di Gallura.
About the wine:
"Fruit that bears richly" ... the meaning of the name. Sciala evokes images of golden grapes in the warm light of the Gallura autumn. Here, millennia-old memories and modern precision come together to create a Vermentino that is considered the style-defining work (not only) of Surrau. The grapes come from the estate's best plots: historic soils with granite subsoil, perfect drainage, constant wind, the grapes rigorously selected to maximise the potential of all components. After only brief skin contact, gentle fermentation takes place in stainless steel, followed by around six months of maturation on the fine lees, balanced and clear in style.
In the glass, Sciala shines a brilliant straw yellow with greenish reflections. As always, the nose is magnificent and complex: white peach, citrus blossom, lime and a hint of tropical fruit, overlaid with a fine salty minerality. On the palate, the wine reveals its incredible depth: creamy yet lively, with clear fruit, fresh acidity and a mineral core. The finish is impressively long, structured, with a certain coolness and salty depth. Every year, Sciala brings the Gallura terroir to the glass with authenticity and a lively presence. One of the best Sardinian white wines every year!

90 Points - Falstaff:
"Bright straw yellow with greenish reflections. Playful nuances of sugar melon, orange blossom, jasmine and glacier ice on the nose. Balanced, sweet and fruity on the palate with measured acidity and medium length." (Oct 2025)
