About the Winery:
About this Wine:
Speri Amarone is made from Corvina, Rondinella, and Corvinone, grown in the estates most prestigious cru, a single hillside vineyard called SantUrbano. This vineyard features calcareous-cretaceous soil of volcanic origin that retains humidity, protecting it from drought. The whole vineyard extends 19 hectares.
The grapes are hand-picked and then re-sorted to find only the best bunches in late September. They then dry for about 100-120 days under ideal conditions in terms of temperature, humidity and ventilation. They lose about 41% of their initial weight, enhancing concentration and sugar levels. In mid-January, the grapes are soft-pressed and de-stemmed. This is followed by about thirty-six days of maceration on the skins with periodic pumping over and dlestage. The wine completes fermentation in large oak barrels and then ages twenty-four months in oak, eighteen months in Slavonian oak barrels and twelve months in bottle.
Very deep and intense bouquet with spicy, aromatic and jammy notes combining power and finesse; a prelude to a palate that is rich, sensuous, highly structured and complex, lingering on and on. Especially cellar-worthy.

Ratings & Reviews
96 Points - Vinous Media:
"A compelling bouquet of dusty dried violets, fresh coffee grounds, cocoa powder and dried black cherries makes the 2019 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Sant'Urbano impossible to ignore. This is wonderfully lifted and graceful in style, dense yet energetic with silken textures and polished red berry fruits that slowly saturate the palate. The 2019 youthfully folds in upon itself, leaving a bitter tinge of spice, dark chocolate and fine-grained tannins. The balance here is something to behold. The 2019 is full of potential—bury it deep." - Eric Guido (Feb 2024)
95 Points - James Suckling:
"A single Amarone here, from one vineyard. If there was the legislation to promote single vineyard wine, the estate would likely make more of them. But as it stands, there is not. A large-framed wine with a coil of tannins, operating like a spring of expansion, tension and promotion, sashaying notes of coffee grind, camphor, bitter chocolate, mocha, clove, olive, Fernet Branca, balsamic and pithy cherry notes long across the palate on one hand, while tightening the structural latticework to keep them contained, poised and eminently drinkable, on the other. The more I go back to this, the more I like it. A sophisticated Amarone, with a wonderful skein of acidity towing length. Drinkable now, but best from 2025." (Apr 2023)
93 Points - Decanter Magazine:
"From traditional pergola-trained vines in Monte Sant'Urbano in Fumane, the grapes for this Amarone are dried for 110 days before fermentation in stainless steel. Malo takes place in 50hl oak barrels, followed by ageing for 24 months in 500-litre French oak tonneaux then 18 months in various sizes of large Slavonian barrels. Vibrant aromas of warm berries, pomegranate and a chocolate undertone are followed by an intense and saline mouthful of spicy ripe berries. There's plenty of acidity to balance it, and other than a slight warming sensation there's little to suggest there's 15% of alcohol present. Rich yet finessed, it has a surprising sapidity and tanginess of fruit on the long, herb-and-wood-infused finish." - James Button (Jun 2024)
92 Points - Wine Spectator:
"Hints of crushed pine and marjoram lace wild cherry and mulberry fruit flavors, with a silky profile enmeshed with fine, taut tannins. Shows focus and length, with perfumed notes of cracked pink peppercorn, paprika, iron and dried violet joining the herb accents on the lasting finish. Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella. Drink now through 2032. 8,000 cases made." - Alison Napjus (Feb 2025)
