Overview:
Siro Pacenti Vecchie Vigne Brunello di Montalcino DOCG is crafted from the oldest sections of the Pelagrilli and Piancornello vineyards, featuring vines aged 40-60 years. Located in Montalcino, Tuscany, at elevations of 200-380 meters, the vineyards have sandy soils with clay at Pelagrilli and mineral-rich, pebbly soils at Piancornello. The vines are trained using Guyot and cordon spur systems and are farmed sustainably. The grapes, yielding approximately 3002 kg per hectare, undergo rigorous selection through an optical sorter before and after destemming, followed by cold maceration and fermentation with indigenous yeast.
The wine is aged for 24 months in custom-made 225-liter French oak barriques, then spends two months in concrete vats, and finally matures for 22 months in the bottle. This process results in a wine that is precise, pronounced, dense, and balanced, showcasing the exceptional quality of old-vine Sangiovese. The annual production of Vecchie Vigne is around 12,000 bottles, and the wine is vegan. The technical data includes a total acidity of 5.7 g/l and a residual sugar content of 32.2 g/l.
Ratings & Reviews
99 Points - Falstaff:
Rich, sparkling ruby, lively and powerful. Intense and at the same time finely drawn nose, intense aromas of plums, ripe dark cherries, blackberries and some milk chocolate. Plays big on the palate, fine, present fruit, lots of red berries, opens up with lots of fine-meshed tannins in many layers, lingers for a long time, salty on the finish.
98 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:
"The 2021 Brunello Di Montalcino Vecchievigne, as expected, takes a deeper, more matte shade of red and is going to require some patience. It’s compact and full of electric energy within a full-bodied frame, and it has loads of saltiness and bright acidity, with well-defined tannins and persistent, focused length and drive. It’s long on the palate, with a spiced and mouthwatering finish with a characteristic touch of warmth. Give this a few years and drink over the following 12-15 years. Drink 2028-2043." - Audrey Frick (Feb 2026)
98 Points - James Suckling:
"Black cherry, black licorice, graphite, violet and lavender aromas follow through to a full body with a compact center palate and chewy yet very integrated tannins that give drive and great length. Muscular and agile in the finish. Try after 2029. - JS (Jan 2026)
"Youthfully backward in the glass, the 2021 Brunello di Montalcino Vecchie Vigne requires some coaxing to unleash its array of dried black cherries, mentholated herbs, cinnamon sticks and crushed stone. It is seamlessly silky smooth and supple, with depths of chocolate-laced wild berry fruits contrasted by a tactile mineral core. Fresh acidity wins the day as the 2021 finishes with cheek-punching tension, structured yet not severe, while leaving a tart berry twang. (Drink between 2028-2046) - Eric Guido (Nov 2025)
95 Points - Wine Advocate:
"The Siro Pacenti 2021 Brunello di Montalcino Vecchie Vigne offers greater concentration and oak spice, presenting a dark and richly layered profile with generous tannins well suited to the character of the warm vintage. Aged in barrique, the wine is built from an intriguing blend of fruit, with half drawn from mineral-rich rocky soils at 150 meters in elevation in the southern sector and half from clay-heavy northern vineyards at 330 meters in elevation, giving it both weight and dimension. This structured and deeply flavored Brunello is produced in 15,000 bottles. " - Monica Larner (Jan 2026)
