About the Winery:
Silver Oak Cellars is a family-owned, California winery dedicated to producing only Cabernet Sauvignon. Silver Oak was established in 1972 by Ray Duncan and Justin Meyer. It is currently operated by Ray's sons David Duncan, who serves as the President and CEO, and his brother, Tim Duncan, who serves as Executive Vice President. Silver Oak has two wineries; one in Oakville in the Napa Valley and one in Healdsburg in the Alexander Valley.

Winemaker Notes:
The 1997 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has a vibrant and clean, dark red hue. The aromas are likewise still vibrant and alive, with notes of cassis liqueur, mint, crème brûlée molasses and a touch of cigar smoke. The entry is layered and has flavors of violets and juicy berries, along with tannins reminiscent of unsweetened chocolate. On the palate, it’s full of youthful exuberance—broad and dense but with acidity and complex flavors. The tannins are still a bit rough around the edges and lightly grip the palate on its lovely finish. Decanting suggested due to moderate sediment. Enjoy now through 2029.

Ratings & Reviews:

89 Points - Wine Advocate:
"The 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley is a dense purple color with boisterous, sweet, spicy, new oak, licorice, and olive notes. This flamboyant wine tastes lighter than I would have expected for a 1997. In the mouth, it reveals medium body, sweet jammy cherry fruit, and a soft finish. It needs to be drunk over the next 7-8 years. By the way, the Alexander Valley cuvees are always 100% Cabernet Sauvignon." - Robert Parker (Dec 2000)
