About the Winery:
Silver Oak Cellars is a family-owned, California winery dedicated to producing only Cabernet Sauvignon. Silver Oak was established in 1972 by Ray Duncan and Justin Meyer. It is currently operated by Ray's sons David Duncan, who serves as the President and CEO, and his brother, Tim Duncan, who serves as Executive Vice President. Silver Oak has two wineries; one in Oakville in the Napa Valley and one in Healdsburg in the Alexander Valley.
Wine Maker Notes:
The 1994 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has deep tawney garnet hue. It shows aromas of coffee grounds, soy sauce, hazelnut and cigar smoke. It is broad and rich upon attack and on the mid-palate but is lower in acidity than other Silver Oak wines of the era. Structurally, it is still quite tactile and shows slightly grippy tannins but is showing signs of age within its long and persistent finish. Decanting suggested due to heavy sediment. Enjoy now.
Ratings & Reviews:
93 Points - Wine Advocate:
"The 1994 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley reveals a provocative nose of tobacco, black cherries, cloves, fruitcake, and spice. Some plum and raspberry fruit also emerges on the palate. This is a hedonistic, sexy, seductive, full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon with low acidity, and loads of toasty oak. It will be a huge crowd pleaser when released next year. It should show well for at least 12-15 years." - Robert Parker ( Dec 1997)
