From the Winemaker:
With nearly ten acres (4 ha) Schlossgut Diel is by far the largest owner of this legendary steep site. One explanation of the name is that miners searched for gold here in the 17th century. Another is that the wines made from this site are worth their weight in gold. The key to success is in the soil. A thin layer of clay over bedrock provides power, elegance and depth to the wines.

Variety is certainly the spice of life for the Diels. What they do is more than just a job, it is their calling. Caroline is the seventh generation of winemaker — and first woman — at the venerable Schlossgut, having assumed the reigns together with her husband Sylvain Taurisson-Diel in July 2019.

Ratings & Reviews

Vinous Media:
"Ripe pear and apple on the nose morph into a delightfully crunchy palate impression, yet there is an underlying sense of richness. Seed piquancy serves for stimulating counterpoint on an otherwise simple but refreshingly juicy and impressively persistent finish. This bottling originated largely in Burg Layen, and Diel explained that the main differences from her generic Kabinett of the vintage are merely lower residual sugar and more time on the lees." - David Schildknecht (June 2020)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2018 Riesling Von der Nahe is the predominantly slate-driven estate wine that is not fermented to fully dry. Clear and piquant on the bright nose, this is a lush and pretty rich Riesling with round and intense fruit and an elegant palate. Quite powerful for this category, though. It has 12% alcohol plus 18 grams of well-integrated residual sugar. " - Stephan Reinhardt (July 2019)
