Notes from the Winemaker:
Scattered Peaks wines embody the spirit of adventure and determination, reflecting
founder Derek Benham's quest for excellence. Our boutique wines are bold and
powerful yet elegant, showcasing a harmonious balance of strength and finesse.
Vineyard:
We have sourced and worked with Usibelli Vineyard for 17 years. Located just 15 minutes outside of St. Helena in Pope Valley, this vineyard is ‘off the beaten path’’, in a quieter area of Napa Valley and produces grapes which are of gold standard in the region.
Vintage:
The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon vintage will be remembered for low yields with intensely flavored, small-sized berries and a smooth and uneventful harvest season. The resulting grapes are packed full of flavor and this smaller berry size will result in another amazing vintage from Napa Valley.
Winemaking:
We harvested our Cabernet Sauvignon from Usibelli Vineyards during the cool morning hours once they attained brix levels between 25°- 26° and the fruit was most flavorful and mildly acidic. At the winery they were sorted, de-stemmed and cold soaked for four days prior to fermentation. During primary fermentation, three daily pump overs are
done, then wine was racked into French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and 18 months of aging.

Ratings & Reviews
90 Points - James Suckling
“Notes of blackberries, cassis, herbs, walnuts and toasted cedar. Medium- to full-bodied, dry and a little chewy with a dusty texture to its tannins. Needs more fruit concentration in the middle, yet it’s fresh and flavorful. Drink now.” (May 2024)
