About the winery:
In 2007, Marilisa Allegrini (of the Veneto's esteemed Allegrini winery!) and Leonardo LoCascio (head of US importer Winebow) purchased the property, and brought in winemaker Nicola Biasi to build on San Polo's already considerable reputation and impressive levels of quality: Poggio San Polo's Brunello di Montalcino have consistently achieved outstanding ratings since the 1997 vintage.

The vineyards at San Polo were planted between 1990 and 2000 with the goal of making the highest quality Brunello di Montalcino. With an altitude of 1350 feet above sea level, their southern facing vineyard receives optimal sun exposure and is the highest in Montalcino. The vineyard also has natural terraces facing the stunning Sant'Antimo Valley and is entirely dedicated to Brunello di Montalcino.

Notes from the Winemaker:
One of the wines that enriches the winery's range of products, Rubio's roots lie in the vineyards that encircle Montalcino.

Brilliant ruby red with purplish highlights, this wine is intense and persistent, with fresh aromas of cherries, violets and red currants, followed by subtle, spicy nuances. Artfully- structured with balanced tannins and a lingering aromatic finish. The hints of forest fruits and cherries that characterise the varietal make it an easily approachable wine while still rendering it intense and elegant.

Ratings & Reviews

91 Points - James Suckling (2017 Vintage):
"Lots of dried fruit with orange-peel character. Hints of cedar, too. Medium body. Juicy fruit and a delicious finish. Drink or hold." (14 Apr, 2019)
