About the Winery:
Fattoria San Giusto a Rentennano is a famous, historical Tuscan wine estate known for both Chianti Classico and high-quality, single-variety IGT wines. Located 15km to the northeast of the Renaissance city of Siena, the winery is owned and run by the Martini di Cigala family in the village of Gaiole.

San Giusto a Rentennano's vineyards have been certified organic since 2006.

About this Wine:
Produced from 100% Sangiovese grapes, selected bunch by bunch from the best vineyards, with a limited yield of about 0.8 kg per plant, often harvested beyond the usual levels of ripeness. Fermentation and maceration takes place in enamelled concrete tanks and lasts up to 30-35 days. The elevation takes place in 500 Lt French oak barrels and tonneaux for 20-22 months and the wine ages 18 months in the bottle in our cellars. Most of the vineyards destined for the production of Percarlo are located on soils of Pliocene origin, formed by layers of sand and pebbles (tuff) from 2 to 5 meters deep, below which there are clay banks. To a lesser extent they are found on marl and alberese soils, on the southwestern side of the company; the vineyards of "Corsignano", near Monti in Chianti, they are located on decidedly more clayey soils. The average altitude is 270 meters above sea level. Despite the diversity between the vintages (expression of every wine faithful to its terroir), Percarlo shows a continuity of characteristics that gives it its own precise identity. It is a long-aged wine, a strong expression of the land of San Giusto a Rentennano.

Ratings & Reviews

97 Points - Vinous Media:
"The 2018 Percarlo is another fabulous wine in this range from San Giusto. Ample and creamy, the 2018 dazzles with its total sense of finesse. In 2018, Percarlo is silky, gracious and super-refined. Time in the glass brings out attractive floral and spice overtones that lend brightness. It shows remarkably well for a wine that was bottled only recently. The 2018 was aged in a combination of 30HL casks and 500-liter tonneaux." - Antonio Galloni (Sep 2021)

96 Points - Raffaele Vecchione - WinesCritic:
"Ripe and concentrated, it displays notes of black plums, blackberries, sweet caramel, bay leaves, cloves and juniper berries. Full body, smooth and decidedly silky in the sip it closes sustained, radiant and engaging. Drink now."

95 Points - Wine Advocate:
"The organic 2018 Percarlo is all Sangiovese from a special 30-hectare site that sees a mix of typical Tuscan soils at a breezy 270 meters in elevation. Before oak aging, the wine is fermented in a combination of stainless steel and cement. Percarlo reveals a luxuriously rich and dense quality. The wine's profound intensity is built by deep fruit and elegant mineral etchings. The bouquet is outstanding. However, the only distraction is the dry or powdery tannin that I enjoyed to a lesser extent (with the powerful 15% alcohol content). Exactly 18,352 bottles were made, with various large formats included in that number." – Monica Larner (Feb 2023)

94 Points - Wine Spectator:
"A dense, tightly wound red, with tar, olive and tobacco aromas giving way to dusty cherry and plum flavors. Vibrant and firms up on the mineral-laden finish. A bit angular now, yet with fine potential. Best from 2024 through 2040. 850 cases made, 200 cases imported." - Bruce Sanderson (Sep 2022)
