Notes from the Winemaker:
Among Tuscany's oldest and most prestigious wine families, Ambrogio and Giovanni Folonari teamed with Allen Shoup to produce a wine that showcases Washington state's terroir with plenty of Italian character. Saggi (meaning "wisdom") is a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah.
Tasting Notes:
A striking, brilliant garnet-colored wine with ripe red cherries, fresh fig and Grenadine aromas and flavors wrapped around a core of bright fruit and integrated layers of sweek oak. Lush and generous on the entry, the mid-palate is rich and vibrant before gaining focus on a finish that shines with polished, refined tannins and great balance.
Ratings & Reviews
93 Points - James Suckling:
"Shows cherries, chocolate and hints of cedar. Medium-bodied, tight and focused with a fine and silky finish. Pretty blend of 62% sangiovese, 28% cabernet sauvignon and 10% syrah. Drink or hold." (May 2018)
91+ Points - Antonio Galloni's Vinous:
"Bright dark red with ruby tones. Aromas and flavors of plum, red cherry, raspberry and licorice are complicated by menthol and herbs. Pliant, fine-grained and slightly medicinal on the palate, conveying excellent intensity and sound acidity. Finishes with dusty but refined tannins and attractive floral lift but also a drying hint of greenness. I'd like to revisit this very young wine in two or three years. (15.2% alcohol)" - Stephen Tanzer (Nov 2018)
