Notes from the Winemaker:
Chardonnay is the very soul of Ruinart. The grape, mainly harvested from the Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims terroirs, is at the heart of all our cuvées.
The blend is 100% Chardonnay from various years (20 to 25% of which are reserve wines from the 2 previous years).
A large majority of Premiers Crus from the Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims vineyards for aromatic refinement, supplemented by Sézannais wines known to provide maturity. Finally, several wines from the north of the Vesle valley give a light, fresh touch.
Tasting Notes
At first very intense on the nose, with fresh fruit notes, particularly ripe citrus fruits.
A second refined floral nose with notes of white flowers and fruits (white peaches, pineapple). A supple, harmonious attack on the palate, very rounded. Vinosity that is not excessive, supported by excellent freshness.
Beautiful pale golden yellow color with gentle green reflections, a vibrant, luminous colour. Active effervescence with a persistent release of bubbles.
Food Pairing:
A perfect champagne for aperitifs, particularly in spring and summer.
It is an excellent complement to seafood and shellfish; perfect with a sea bass or bream tartare. It would also be very good with seared sole.
Ratings & Reviews
93 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine:"Steeped apricot and candied ginger flavors are an aromatic entry for this graceful Champagne, backed by finely cut acidity and layered with accents of kumquat, toast point and salted Marcona almond. It's fresh and racy, yet there's an effortless quality to the integration that makes this hard to stop sipping. Long, minerally finish. Drink now through 2027" - AN (Dec 15, 2020)
93 Points - James Suckling:
"This Champagne has a strong following and it's easy to see why with the attractive ripe chardonnay fruits delivering white and yellow peach, mango, nectarine and lemon cream aromas and flavors. Smooth, sorbet-like palate. Drink now." (October 4, 2017)
92 Points - Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
"With its 100% Chardonnay, this Champagne is finely textured, elegant with minerality and the freshest crispest apple flavors. It does have some weight and certainly has intensity—a satisfying, textured wine that is ready to drink." - Roger Voss (12/20)
92 Points - Vinous Media:
"Light yellow-gold. Smoky citrus and orchard fruits on the deeply perfumed, mineral-tinged nose. Offers broad, toasty orange and pear skin flavors with an undercurrent of dusty minerals. Picks up floral and ginger nuances with air, along with hints of iodine and tarragon. Rich yet lively blanc de blancs with powerful back-end lift and finishing grip." - Josh Raynolds (Jan 2015)
91 Points - Decanter Magazine:
"This blanc de blancs (100% Chardonnay) is sourced mostly from the Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims, including a portion of premier cru vineyards. It has a lean, lemon and apple bite backed up by some smooth creaminess. It's fuller in body than stablemate Veuve Clicquot, displaying good acidity and power. Dosage 9g/l." - James Button (10/31/2019)
