Notes from the Winemaker:
Color: Ruby red

Intense and intriguing on the nose, initial aromas of mature red and black fruits, such as cherries, plums, and small black berries, typical of Sangiovese, are complemented by hints of spices, sweet tobacco, and refined balsamic notes.

Tasting profile:
Full bodied with a modern Super Tuscan style, this wine is rich with silky tannins and flavors of mature blackberry fruit and cocoa. Vibrant fresh fruit flavors from the Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot weave together with finesse, each adding its own distinctive character.

Pairing: Modus can be enjoyed on its own, or with a broad range of bold dishes such as steak, pastas with Bolognese sauce, or ossobuco.

After completing malolactic fermentation, the three varietals were blended and aged for 12 months in 60-gallon (225 liter) oak barrels of first, second, and third use. The wine then spent an additional six months in stainless steel tanks and bottle before release.

GRAPE VARIETIES: 34% Sangiovese, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot

Ratings & Reviews

93 Points - James Suckling:
"A juicy and fruity red with plenty of dried fruits and toasted oak. Vanilla. Full body and chewy tannins. Plenty of fruit. A big wine now. Needs a year or two to soften. Drink in 2019." - (August 28, 2017)

93/100 - Natalie Maclean
"The 2014 vintage of this rich, full-bodied Italian red wine is a blend of 50% Sangiovese, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Merlot grapes. The vines are planted primarily in the vineyards of Ruffino's estates of Poggio Casciano and Santedame, which is hilly clay rich in fossil fragments. The wine undergoes a malolactic fermentation and a post-fermentative maceration on the skins for 2 weeks to add richness and depth. It's then aged for 12 months in first, second and third use American and French 225 litre oak barrels. This Super Tuscan is worthy of your attention, from its ruby-violet gem glints in the glass to its finish as long as a Tuscan country road. It delivers an intense bouquet of black cherry, plum, graphite, dried tobacco leaves and dark spice. This robust red wine has remarkably polished tannins that yield to a supple, smooth texture. Incredible concentration and flavour at such a reasonable level of alcohol. Pair with truffle-inflected dishes and grilled meats." (Sept 2019)
