About the Winery:
After purchase of vineyards in Chateauneuf du Pape and renting of some parcels Saouma's vineyards covers 4,5 ha of which 2 ha are situated at lieu-dit Pignan (close to Rayas) when the rest are small parcels at Les Grès, Cabrières, Pied de Baut and Grandes Serres.
In 2012 Mounir Saouma bought a domain between Orange and Serignan-du-Comtat. The Domain's vineyards had not been looked after for decades and was in fact not existing anymore. On the other hand there was an underground cellar, which was found usable by Mounir. This cellar is now used for ageing of the wines. The vinification takes place in a new cellar built above the underground cellar. The vineyards have been totally renovated and replanted.
Ratings & Reviews
96 Points, #100 Top 100 Wines of 2024 - Wine Spectator:
"Powerful and sleek, this shows a glistening beam of yellow apple wrapped in stylish oak, with tremendous underlying concentration. Modern and very well-executed, with a saline streak, this hums with mineral energy and impressive structure on the seemingly never-ending finish. Still tightly wound, this should do well in the cellar. Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Roussanne and Bourboulenc. Drink now through 2027. 120 cases imported." - KB (Mar 2024)
94 Points - Vinous Media:
"The 2020 Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc Magis is a total stunner, unwinding with crushed flowers, white peach, vanilla, yellow apple, lemon flesh and toasty elements. Offering a vertical sensations on the full[bodied palate, the 2020 packs outstanding intensity and focus. A deliciously saline note accompanies the complex finish." - Nicolas Greinacher (Jun 2023)
93 Points - Wine Advocate:
"A blend of 75% Grenache Blanc, 10% each Clairette and Roussanne and 5% Bourboulenc, the 2020 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc Magis was fermented and spent two years in new 500-liter barrels (with occasional stirring) prior to bottling. The result is toasty and spicy, with a pronounced oak and lees character, backed by ripe tangerines and plenty of lime zest and brine. It's full-bodied, nicely rounded in the mouth, yet retains a long, crisp and saline quality on the finish." - Joe Czerwinski (Mar 2024)
