In 1982 our estate vineyards set a full crop. The cool growing season slowed ripening and the vines matured with the grapes at lower sugar levels than usual. We keep the wine from each section of these vineyards separate to judge its quality as it develops. The most intense and characteristic are selected for our “reserve,” the Monte Bello. This excellent wine will need two or three years in bottle to show its depth and complexity and should continue to develop for at least eight to ten years. - PD (July 1984)
