About the Whisky:

FROM THE HEART OF THE OZARKS

Redbreast Missouri Oak Edition, the latest addition to Redbreast’s esteemed American Oak series, seamlessly blends the signature Redbreast single pot still whiskey profile, aged in sherry and ex-bourbon barrels, with the unique and distinctive influence of Missouri Oak. The whiskey was meticulously finished for ten months in Virgin Missouri Oak barrels, the oak sourced from the esteemed Ozark Forest, to bring a captivating twist to the renowned Redbreast liquid.

To celebrate the new launch, Redbreast, known as a champion for bird preservation, has sponsored a research study into the magnificent Cerulean Warblers that breed in the Ozark Forest, with the songbird gracing the packaging of the new expression in homage. In partnership with Dr. Jeff Larkin, professor of Wildlife Ecology and Conservation at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Redbreast aims to highlight how North American oak woodlands are essential for the Cerulean Warbler and to refine forest management guidelines to better protect and enhance the birds’ habitat.

101 Proof

Tasting Notes:

NOSE: Generous waves of sweet toffee apple and vanilla at first, closely followed by ripe blackcurrants and black cherries. The American oak enhances the pot still spices with additional notes of cinnamon and ground ginger, while nutty undertones akin to pecan pie linger gently in the background.

TASTE: Rich with oak tannins that slowly subside, giving way to the luscious and creamy texture of this wonderfully balanced pot still whiskey. The sweetness continues to build in tandem with spices of cinnamon, nutmeg, and black peppercorns along with rich berry fruits and vanilla cream.

FINISH: Satisfyingly long, with the nuttiness and pot still spices lingering for a time before finally yielding to the oak.

Awards/Reviews:

93 Points - Whisky Advocate

"Red apple, honey, almost caramel-like on the nose, with oak and pot still spices, sweet cinnamon, cocoa powder, and maraschino cherry. It’s curiously oaky at first, then opens up with red apple, chocolate, baking spices, black tea, and cinnamon bark, with a mouth-coating texture on the finish that revels in wood spices. This is a robust pot still whiskey, and one that’s bursting with flavor."

"This is a big, bold beast of a Redbreast whiskey, with the core identity remaining intact but augmented by a range of different flavors. There is a bit of dusty apple and leather on the nose, with almost a cider-like quality to it. The vanilla, caramel, and brown sugar notes from the bourbon barrels and dried fruit and spice notes from the sherry casks are all there on the palate. But there’s an intensity of flavor wrapped around that, with notes of smoky oak, a touch of tannic bitterness, roasted espresso bean, and some black pepper. This is a really interesting and tasty version of Redbreast that stands out from the rest, and almost reminds me of double-barreled American whiskeys from brands like Woodford ReserveKentucky Peerless, or Noble Oak." - Robb Report

"Dark toffee, pie spice, and roasted nut notes. As it opens, things get a little dusty with more barrel char and toasted oak aromas. That heavier wood profile carries over on the palate where top notes of barley sugar, vanilla bean, and cooked stone fruit quickly give way to more baked notes of dark brown pie crust and crunchy chocolate biscuits. It’s soothing and warm but with significantly more spice and pepper than the Kentucky Oak offering, simmering into a generous finish with notes of peach tart, ginger tea, and chocolate mints." - Drinkhacker

"On the nose, you'll find a deep initial sweetness, followed by a number of fruity notes. Blackcurrant seems to be the most prominent. This evolves into a solid range of spices, with ginger and cinnamon standing out. These spicy notes are common in pot stills like Redbreast, but are further accentuated by the spirit's time in Missouri oak barrels. On the palate, the experience is similar. The initial burn of the alcohol makes way for a spot of vanilla courtesy of the oak, and a building sweetness that nicely coats the tongue. The sweetness continues to ramp up before evolving into a tart fruitiness and finally finishing off with an array of spices. It is worth noting that these flavors open up a lot more with the addition of water, as is the case for pretty much all whiskeys. Redbreast Missouri Oak Edition goes a bit further. It accentuates the flavors and textures that make pot still whiskeys unique, and it's likely a must-taste for those who enjoy the traditional Irish tipple's qualities." - Tasting Table
