About the Winery:
Over the course of 300+ years, since 1716, Quinta do Vallado has been producing excellent wines in Portugal’s Douro Valley. It is one of the oldest and most famous wineries in all the Douro, started by the legendary Doña Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, and still belongs to the same family today. It is a sixth-generation winery, currently owned by João Ferreira Alvares Ribeiro and Francisco Ferreira. The estate produced Port wines exclusively, until the 1990’s when it expanded production into dry wines.

Vallado has 250 acres of its own vineyards in two sub-regions of the Douro. They are comprised 100-year-old field blend vines, single variety plots and certified organic vineyards. The terraced vineyards are hand-harvested with one row of vines trained to a double cordon trellising system, allowing for good drainage, air flow and erosion control.

Notes From the Winemaker:
The Quinta Do Vallado 30 year-old Tawny is a very intense blend of dried fruits and honey. The taste is explosive, with a hint of orange jam and a long finish.

The grapes come from Estate vineyards. After hand-picking, destemming and crushing, sugar is added and the resulting must is fermented in very old 600 liter oak casks and other oak vats.

A terrific after-dinner drink, this Port is the perfect accompaniment to cheeses, nuts and chocolate or nut desserts.

Ratings & Reviews

96 Points - Decanter Magazine:
"Vallado’s 30-year-old is sourced from old field-blend vines planted to more than 35 different grape varieties. A pale, delicate hue, with lifted orange peel, saffron and marmalade notes. Sings with the freshness of caramelised oranges on a mellifluous palate, with honey, dates and dried fig. Long, persistent and very elegant, with delicious Bourbon vanilla nuance to the finish."

94 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
"A 30-year-old tawny that shows great intensity and rich dried fruits and honey as well as the woody flavors from long aging in barrel. It's a very fine wine, dry in character with touches of bitter marmalade and finished with intense acidity. Like all tawnies, the wine is ready to drink." - RV

93 Points - Wine Spectator:
"Stylish, with white raisin, peach, green tea and ginger notes streaming through together. A sandalwood spine holds the finish and a flash of jasmine emerges at the end. Drink now. 125 cases made, 25 cases imported." - JM (Dec 2018)

93 Points - Wine Advocate:
"The NV 30 Year Old Tawny Port is an old vines field blend bottled in 2015. It comes in with 159 grams per liter of residual sugar. This is most notable initially for the rich and unctuous finish, leaning more to caramel than molasses. Then, the darker flavors come out. It is not always the biggest or the most powerful, but it adds good acidity that laces through the notable sweetness, and it becomes increasingly complex. It is seriously delicious, an important point in its favor, and that unctuous feel caresses the palate. There were just 1,000 500-milliliter bottles produced." - Mark Squires (Mar 2016)

93 Points - James Suckling:
"Aromas of old wood, toffee and dried fruits. Full-bodied and very sweet with caramel, burnt butter and brown sugar. Sweet finish. Drink now." (Jan 2023)
