About the Winery:
Produttori del Barbaresco exclusively vinifies Nebbiolo grapes from the vineyards owned by the 50 member-growers in within the Barbaresco DOCG appellation.

In any given vintage a Barbaresco and a Nebbiolo Langhe are produced. The former, first released in the 1958 vintage, is made by assembling grapes from different fully grown vineyards. This is the flagship wine of the winery, known all over the world for the solid quality and great value that it represents. The latter, first released in 1975, is made with a selection of grapes from younger vineyards in within the region. It is suited for earlier consumption and it is a great way to introduce one’s palate to the beauty of the Nebbiolo grape and the Barbaresco terroir.

In great vintages only, nine single vineyards are produced and released after four years under the Riserva (Reserve) program. These wines are produced from a selection of grapes sourced from nine historical premium sites within the Barbaresco village boundaries. Historical vineyards, known for centuries for producing high quality grapes and now worldwide famous also thanks to the Produttori del Barbaresco legacy. Their names are Asili, Montefico, Montestefano, Muncagota, Ovello, Pajè, Pora, Rabajà, Rio Sordo.

First released in 1967, they are vinified and aged with exactly the same style in order to show their different personalities at their best and purest form. A tasting of the nine "Produttori Crus" is therefore an unique experience, just like a walk through the hills of Barbaresco can be!

Ratings & Reviews

95 Points – Wine Advocate:
"The Produttori del Barbaresco 2017 Barbaresco Riserva Montefico is especially broad and thick in texture. It feels generous to the senses, wrapping thickly over the palate with a pretty mix of firm tannins and soft fruit fiber. These elements help to increase both the volume and the persistence of this classic wine. There is some dryness on the finish (and 15% alcohol), and you also taste crushed mineral and stone. Production is 10,000 bottles. I give this wine an edge in terms of future aging potential.” – Monica Larner (Jun 2022)

95 Points - Vinous Media:
"The 2017 Barbaresco Riserva Montefico is one of the stand-outs in this range. It shows the piercing tannins typical of this site, and yet has more than enough fruit to balance those tannins, certainly more so than wones like the Rabaja. This exposed site benefits from cooling winds from the north, clearly a benefit in 2017. Even in the early going, the balance here is terrific. In 2017, the Montefico is one of the clear stand outs in the range.” – Antonio Galloni (Feb 2022)

94 Points - The Wine Independent:
"The 2017 Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco Montefico Riserva shows lifted floral notes and a layer of fresh earth and spices. On standing, the spice opens up a little bit, with dried cherry and brambly fruits. The silky, seductive texture melts on the palate with very fine sandy-grained tannins and a freshness on the finish. A very nice example of this rich traditional style, wait perhaps 2-3 years and drink up to 20.” – Susan Hulme (Jul 2023)

94 Points - Wine Spectator:
"Marked by plum and menthol, this also has elements of iron, tar and tobacco. Muscular and brooding, with a strong grip of tannins on the finish. Best from 2026 through 2043. 1,388 cases made, 350 cases imported.” – BS (Apr 2023)

94 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
"Cedar, truffle, scorched earth and a whiff of blue violet form the nose along with ripe berry. Full-bodied and structured, the palate offers raspberry jam, black cherry, cake spice and star anise alongside taut tannins. Drink through 2029.” – Kerin O’Keefe (Sep 2022)
