About the winery:
Pommery & Greno was founded in 1858 by Alexandre Louis Pommery and Narcisse Greno after Monsiuer Pommery learned his wife was expecting another child just after he had decided to retire from wool trading. Unfortunately, he passed away only a year later, but his widow Louise took the reigns and the firm was dedicated to Champagne production. It soon became one of the region's largest Champagne brands - they were the first house to commercialize a brut Champagne in 1874, and they are currently owned by the Vranken-Pommery Monopole Group, which also owns Heidsieck & Co Monopole and Vranken, Château la Gordonne, Domaine Royal de Jarras, and Rozès.
The essence of fine cuisine. The chardonnay grape has an assertive presence. Brut Apanage is left to mature in chalk cellars on the Pommery Estate for a further six months to allow the subtlety and finesse of Pommery wines to slowly emerge.
Eye: Brilliant color, pale yellow, effervescent and lingering.
Nose: Fresh, subtle, elegant, creamy, almost butter-like, with citrus fruits (pink grapefruits).
Palate: A wine held together by explosive creaminess. Hazelnuts, dried apricot and vanilla notes are dominated by light tobacco and shortbread.
Ratings & Reviews
92 Points - James Suckling:
"Lightly cooked apples and pears with spice and chalk. Grilled toast. Full-bodied. Creamy and soft texture with pretty acidity coming out. Light almonds at the end. Drink now." (12 Jul, 2019)
91 Points - Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
"This bottling has some age to it, giving a toasty wine with a crisp texture. Nearly four years before disgorging has given it a mature sheen that has balanced the ripe fruit and enhanced a more mineral element. Drink now." Roger Voss (12/1/2018)
91 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine:
"A well-balanced Champagne in an aperitif style, with mouthwatering acidity, a lacy mousse and a crowd-pleasing mix of Gala apple, juicy green pear, candied ginger, lemon zest, toast point and spice flavors. Drink now. 21,666 cases made, 1,000 cases imported." - AN (Nov 2019)
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The latest release of Pommery's NV Brut Apanage offers up a rich bouquet of warm bread, yellow orchard fruit and preserved citrus, followed by a medium to full-bodied, fleshy palate that's easygoing and open-knit, with plenty of user-friendly charm albeit little in the way of depth and complexity." - William Kelley (Apr 2020)

About the wine:
The Brut Apanage comes from only twelve carefully selected crus, with a noticeably greater presence of the finest Grand Crus from the Pommery vineyard. Chardonnay grapes make up about 45% of the blend, and this cuvée ages six months longer than Brut Royal.
