About the winery:
Pommery & Greno was founded in 1858 by Alexandre Louis Pommery and Narcisse Greno after Monsiuer Pommery learned his wife was expecting another child just after he had decided to retire from wool trading. Unfortunately, he passed away only a year later, but his widow Louise took the reigns and the firm was dedicated to Champagne production. It soon became one of the region's largest Champagne brands - they were the first house to commercialize a brut Champagne in 1874, and they are currently owned by the Vranken-Pommery Monopole Group, which also owns Heidsieck & Co Monopole and Vranken, Château la Gordonne, Domaine Royal de Jarras, and Rozès.

About the wine:
This is a classic blend of 35% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir and 30% Pinot Meunier that is fashioned in a light, frothy style. Its nose has a wonderful bready quality with just a hint of toastiness from the cuvee's reserve stocks. The palate offers an appealing play of peach and pear flavors that are nicely elaborated with nougat and soft citrus tones. In keeping with Pommery's house style, the finish is on the dry end of the Brut range but is not sharp or overtly austere. This then is a Champagne of considerable delicacy and nuance that should appeal to both Champagne novices and aficionados alike.

Ratings & Reviews

90 Points - Decanter:
"Light apple and citrus nose. The palate brings bold notes of mashed yellow plums and baking spice. Elegant and quietly persistent." (12 Jul, 2019)

90 Points - Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
"An equal blend of the three major Champagne grape varieties, this cuvée is a reference in the region. It has a fine balance and is rich but with good touches of minerality as well as crisp white fruits. The finish with its bite of citrus is attractively refreshing. Drink the bottling now. " Roger Voss (12/1/2020)

90 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine:
"Fresh accents of spring blossom and chalk are layered with ripe red currant and pineapple fruit flavors in this creamy Champagne, framed by racy acidity and a zesty mousse. Drink now. 8,300 cases imported." - AN (Dec 15, 2019)
