About the Winery:
The first Colla winemaker worked in the Langhe hills in 1703. More recently we have witnessed the legendary career of Beppe Colla (born in 1930) who is said to know every vine in every vineyard around Alba; he was one of the founding fathers of the Alba DOCs in the 1960’s. In 1993, Beppe's talented daughter, Federica, joined forces with his younger brother Tino, and founded Poderi Colla. This challenging new venture combined the family heritage of many generations, the long-standing traditions of their terroir, and the future of Alba county’s wine-making. Their synergy brought together three outstanding estates ("poderi") under a single quality hallmark: Poderi Colla. The three properties are Cascine Drago, just outside Alba, Tenuta Roncaglia, in Barbaresco, and Tenuta Dardi Le Rose, in Barolo's prestigious Bussia cru. Today the wines are expertly styled by Beppe and Tino's son Pietro. Total vineyard surface is 64.2 acres.

About this Wine:
Barbaresco Roncaglie is one of the first true crus of Barbaresco, acknowledged as one of the best places to produce Barbaresco.

History acknowledges that the grapes from this estate have greater value than the grapes from other plots, and the reason lies in the unique vocation of the plots to give balanced, perfect grapes every year, capable of producing a Barbaresco that perfectly matches the features of elegance and harmony that this wine is supposed to have.

Ratings & Reviews:

96 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:
"Roncaglie is located in Treiso from which Poderi Colla sources from their six-hectare parcel, spanning the entire range of the cru’s elevation from 200 to 250 meters in elevation. The 2018 Barbaresco Roncaglie is lifted with aromas of fresh wild strawberry, rose petals, fresh herbs, and dusty earth. The palate is medium-bodied and pretty, with dried red raspberry, dried apricot, and tea leaf. There are building, angular tannins and refreshing, vibrant acidity. This is a lovely wine with lots of energy and finesse. Drink 2024-2042." (May 2021)

93 Points - Vinous Media:
"The Colla family's 2018 Barbaresco Roncaglie packs quite a punch in its deceptively medium-bodied frame. A burst of cedar, sweet pipe tobacco, herbs and dried cherry fruit makes a great first impression. The 2018 is going to need a few years to soften. It is unusually firm today, and yet full of promise for the future. All this needs is a bit of patience." - Antonio Galloni (Feb 2022)
