About the Winery:
Planeta’s journey began at Sambuca di Sicilia, on the estate owned by the family since the 1600s. Here, three enthusiastic young Sicilians, Alessio, Francesca and Santi Planeta, under the guidance of Diego Planeta, began their winemaking venture in the mid-1980s. Subsequent years were spent matching the extraordinarily diverse Sicilian soils with both indigenous and international varieties. Planeta today encompasses six distinct wine estates in five regions across Sicily; Ulmo at Sambuca di Sicilia, Dispensa at Menfi, Dorilli at Vittoria, Buonivini at Noto, Sciara Nuova on Etna at Castiglione di Sicilia, and the newest addition, La Baronia at Capo Milazzo. Each vineyard site is carefully cultivated with grapes that best compliment the local terroir.

About the Wine:
Santa Cecilia is our flagship wine, from the most important Sicilian variety: Nero d'Avola. The long work of searching for the ideal place to make a great wine with this variety has led us to Noto, the territory of origin of this variety, where the DOC Noto is located, at the south-eastern tip of Sicily. With its white soils and ancient vineyards, it has always been the epicenter of Nero d'Avola cultivation. Santa Cecilia is an expression of elegance, power, balance and exaltation of the unique aromas of the lands of Sicily: today it is a reference point for reds from native Sicilian grapes. Its name derives from that of our family: Planeta di Santa Cecilia.

Destemming followed by 21 days of permanence on the skins; After racking, malolactic fermentation follows in steel, aged for 14 months in barriques.

Tasting Notes:

Color: Purple-to-purple red

Nose: A very spicy and fruity wine, bright and clear, scented with carob tree, bergamot and orange peel.

Palate: The ripe and compact fruit on the palate melts very sweet and vigorous in accompanying a tannin of very dense texture but open and calibrated to the structure of this wine with deep and baritone notes. The traces of epirheumatic and graphite give it features of high gustatory lineage, while the wild blackberry and cherry, skilfully extracted, keep the wine on a register of great stylistic and tasting rigor.

"Aromas of red and black cherry, baked strawberry and charred rosemary. Medium-to full-bodied with silky tannins. Slightly tangy acidity plays well with the nicely ripened red and black fruit.
