About this Winery:

Friuli is an ideal region for growing white wine grapes like Pinot Grigio. It is protected by the Alps to the north and receives the sea breeze from the Adriatic Sea in the south. The favorable conditions were known even in Roman times when the region was devoted to winemaking.

The gravelly, sandy subsoil of Friuli forces the roots of the vine to grow deep into the earth in search of water. As the vine struggles, its fruit grows richer, resulting in full, well-structured wine with remarkable minerality. Select handpicked grapes of optimum ripeness are gently pressed immediately after harvest and undergo a cold-temperature fermentation in stainless steel tanks. As there is no malolactic fermentation or oak aging, the finished wine is a beautifully pure expression of the Pinot Grigio grape.

Fernando Pighin & Figli was founded in 1963 when brothers Ercole, Luigi and Fernando Pighin acquired a 500-acre estate in the DOC Grave-del-Friuli zone from an aristocratic Friulian family. The vineyard acreage belonging to the property had for several generations been farmed by 25 families under the former proprietor’s management.

Tasting Notes:
Straw yellow in color with light amber tints. The aroma is fruity and floral with notes of banana, pineapple, and wisteria blossoms. This wine is dry with great body and balance.

Ratings & Reviews

90 Points - James Suckling:
"Lightly honeyed floral notes follow through to a medium body with spicy pear-drop flavors and a touch of salt in the aftertaste. Plenty of flavor and interest. Drink now.” (Mar 2021)

Wine Spectator:
"A juicy white, with a stony base note. This is light-bodied and shows flavors of yellow pear, melon rind and citrus zest with an herbal overtone. Moderate finish. Drink now. 110,000 cases made, 28,000 cases imported. “ – AN (Feb 2022)
