About the Winery:

In 1889 Pierre Moncuit and his wife, Odile Moncuit-Delos, established the house of Champagne Pierre Moncuit. Since 1977, Nicole Moncuit has managed the vineyards and made the wine, while her brother Yves has managed the sales. More recently, Nicole’s daughter Valérie has been actively assisting in the cellar. Mesnil lies smack in the middle of the Côte des Blancs and is its most celebrated village. The wines of Mesnil are known above all for steely elegance and minerality, and those from chez Pierre Moncuit—which has some of the oldest vines along the entire Côte—superbly reflect these qualities.

The Moncuit siblings own 15 hectares of vines surrounding Mesnil, mostly old vines that average 30 years of age. Their high percentage of old rootstock is a rarity in Champagne, where vines are routinely replanted once they reach their 25th birthday.

100% Chardonnay from the family's grand cru vineyards in Le Mesnil. Dosage is 9 grams/liter. Very mineraled release, where the terroir of Le Mesnil really comes through. We smell the chalk, then lurking underneath, plenty of concentrated fruit including grapefruit and an exotic pineapple note.

Ratings & Reviews

93 Points - Vinous Media:
"The NV (2017) Brut Blanc de Blancs Delos Grand Cru is effusive, bright and focused. The added dosage in the Brut version versus the Extra Brut lends texture and resonance while enhancing all the orchard fruit, citrus and floral flavors. Ample and broad, with notable depth, the Brut is a pure and total delight. Disgorged: May, 2021." - Antonio Galloni (November 2021)

93 Points - Allen Meadows Burghound:
"A complex, strikingly elegant and airy nose features notes of baked broad, yeast, pear, green apple and lovely spice notes. The refined character continues onto the absolutely delicious flavors that possess a moderately exuberant mousse before terminating in a dry, crisp and slightly austere finish that is clean, refreshing and persistent. This knockout is drinking perfectly now and is highly recommended." (09/12)

93 Points - Wine & Spirits:
"Moncuit’s wines are all from single villages and single years—this one from the family’s parcels in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and the 2016 vintage. Fermented spontaneously in stainless steel, it is markedly tense and holds a lot of energy in its structure, even though it underwent malolactic conversion. There’s an elegant earthiness in its spring-meadow scent, like Queen Anne’s lace, and a note of green tea that extends through flavors of lemons and tangy orange. Cool and refreshing." (12/28/20)

92 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
"From grand cru vineyards in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, this beautiful, ripe wine is on top form. Great minerality mingles with some bottle age, fruit and toast in harmony. This rich bottling is ready to drink." - Roger Voss (12/1/2020)

18/20 Points - Jancis Robinson:
"THE bargain of this tasting. This is very fine wine – pretty much all 2002. Lovely cool, refreshing, confident, bone-dry classic Chardonnay nose with all the charm and breadth on the palate contributed by the fruit rather than added dosage. Great stuff. This is archetypal aperitif wine. When I visit Nicole Moncuit she bemoaned the fact that her champagne was not appreciated in the UK market. Shame on us!"
