About the Winery:
It has been said that in partnership, the result is harmony. Through a lifetime of building relationships in the vineyards of Burgundy, Pierre Meurgey has proven this a steadfast rule. A native Burgundian, fourth generation wine trader, and former director of operations of a well-known négociant in Beaune, Pierre enjoys friendships with the top vintners and vineyard managers in Burgundy to source the finest grapes for his two labels Pierre Meurgey and Meurgey-Croses.

About this Wine:
Nuits-Saint-Georges has been an active city for centuries and gives its name to the Côte de Nuits. Most of the production comes from Pinot Noir. The Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin was founded here in 1934. The "Les Chaliots" vineyard consists of two parts, one from Vosne-Romanée and the other to the south. 546 bottles produced.

Vinification: Grapes are 100% destemmed, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled vats. 100% malolactic fermentation.

Aging: 228 litre barrels

Grape varieties : Pinot Noir

Vineyard age : Vines planted in the mid 1970s

Exposure : East

Soil : Clay and limestone

Alcohol : 13%

Tasting notes:
Deep ruby color. Good aromatic expression with small black fruits aromas (Blackberries, blackcurrants). Elegance, fresh attack, good balance between roundness and volume. The body is subtly tannic with a fruity elegant finish.

Ratings & Reviews

91 Points - Wine Spectator:
"Pure and supple, this red offers cherry, cranberry, tomato leaf and autumn woods flavors backed by a beam of acidity. Tightens up on the finish yet remains balanced and long. Drink now through 2038." - Bruce Sanderson (Oct 2024)

88-90 Points - Jasper Morris' Inside Burgundy:
"The producer finds this too difficult to harvest by machine so Pierre gets the plot. 3 barrels instead of 5.5 in 2021, with one new. Quite peppery on the nose along with dark red fruit. This peppery character continues all the way through. Apart from the pepper the fruit tastes ripe enough. Not classic but interesting. Drink from 2025-2029." (Oct 2022)

88-90 Points - Allen Meadows' BurgHound:
"This is also reduced but less so while the medium weight flavors display both good vibrancy and freshness on the rustic, austere and lingering finish that offers much better depth. This will need a few years of keeping to round off the supporting tannins as it's presently very Nuits in style." (Apr 2023)
