Notes From the Winemaker:
Named for our original California vineyard, the Creston 600 Ranch, Penfolds Bin 600 Cabernet Shiraz is intrinsically linked to the American Dream we embarked on more than 20 years ago. Today, Bin 600 is made with grapes grown from the original heritage selection of vine cuttings we first planted back in 1998 a taste of the esteemed Kalimna and Magill Estate vineyards, brought to America in a signature Penfolds blend.

Tasting Notes:
Nose Clove, sage, and turmeric spice notes divert to cold coffee grounds, raw coconut kernel, and jasmine tea. Fragrant salsa verde is present in flat leaf parsley, anchovy, and basil. Lastly, the oak provides a platform and springboard for blackberry and quince.
Palate: Medium-bodied with a glycerous texture and a backbone of sweet licorice brimming with potent aniseed. Radiating from this backbone is pepper-rubbed pastrami, rare roast beef, cocoa dusting, semi-dried dates, and freshly harvested persimmons with an open textural weave.

Regions: Napa Valley, California and Paso Robles, California

Varietal Composition: 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Shiraz

Ratings & Reviews

93 Points - James Suckling:
"A very fine and polished red with cherry, berry, chocolate and cedar aromas and flavors. Some spice and meat with hints of tea leaf. Some ash, too. Medium body and extremely refined texture, showing real balance and elegance. The tannins spread across the palate in a beautiful way. 78% cabernet sauvignon and 22% shiraz. Drink or hold." (2/2021)

93 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
"This is a blend of 78% Napa Valley- and Sonoma-grown Cabernet Sauvignon and 22% Shiraz from Paso Robles. It is a smooth and earthy wine that offers flavors of leather, earth, iron and crushed rock cut against herbal accents." - Virginie Boone (4/1/2021)
92 Points - Vinous Media:
"The 2018 Cabernet Shiraz Bin 600 is the entry-level wine in this new range from Penfolds. Bold and racy to the core, the 2018 possesses terrific richness and tons of allure. Blackberry jam, dried flowers, espresso, licorice and leather build in a sumptuous, opulent wine that will be very easy to drink upon release. The blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon and 22% Shiraz from sites in Napa Valley, Sonoma and Paso Robles works so well here. It spent 16 months in American oak, 40% new." -Antonio Galloni (Jan 2021)

92 Points - Decanter Magazine:
"A blend of 78% Napa Valley and Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon with Syrah mainly from Paso Robles, planted by Penfolds from top-tier Australian cuttings. Fruitcake, tar, eucalyptus and incense envelop the nose, then flavours of black liquorice, dark chocolate, molasses and espresso completely coat the palate. The finish showcases concentrated, powerful dark fruits and leathery, fine tannins. Aged 16 months in French and American oak." - Matthew Luczy (1/2021)

90 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"Deep garnet-purple colored, it comes bounding out of the glass with exuberant notes of stewed plums, black cherry preserves and blueberry pie plus suggestions of kirsch, spice cake, licorice and dried mint. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a nice chewiness to the texture and just enough freshness supporting the black fruit preserves, finishing on a savory note. 12,818 cases were made." - Lisa Perrotti-Brown (2/18/2021)
