Winemaker Notes:

This iconic site consistently delivers one of the most elegant and refined Pinots in our portfolio. Enveloping and inviting aromas of red delicious apple, black cherry, Earl Grey tea and potting soil speak to the great terroir of the Hyde Vineyard. The palate holds an elegant stance with a moderate level of tannin extraction, concentrated dark fruit and a lithe finish. Yet the overall intensity is high, and the length shows fruit richness and refined spice. Truly a wine for the engaged Pinot Noir enthusiast!

Vintage Notes
The 2022 vintage was remarkable, marked by a series of climatic challenges and triumphs. Below-average rainfall during the winter months was mitigated by the heavy rains in March and April. A sustained heatwave in August accelerated ripeness, leading to a compressed harvest. The 2022 wines are shaping up to be exceptional, with delightful fruit profiles, acid structures, and concentration. It’s a vintage that captures the essence of the terroir, promising wines that are vibrant, complex, and true to their vineyard origins.

Vineyard Character
Purchased by Larry Hyde in 1979, and planted two years later, this renowned property is cultivated as 44 distinct blocks, and includes a veritable who’s who of the finest Pinot Noir clones. Our Hyde Vineyard Pinot comes from three small blocks within the larger Hyde Vineyard. These blocks spotlight new and older plantings of the famous Hyde-Calera selection, and include coveted grapes from the “old field,” which was planted in 1999.

100% Burgundian French oak barrels (45% New, 55% 1 & 2 year old). All 3-year air dried staves
Aged 18 months on fine lees
Bottled without finning or filtration to preserve the wine’s aromas and flavors and enhance aging potential

Fermentation: Multi-yeast fermentations (native yeast, followed by cultured yeast); 100% Malo-lactic fermentation in barrel.
